I came across a very interesting letter to the editor today in our local newspaper The Key West Citizen
In light of several running conversations here I'd like to share it with you in it's entirety.
Why would black choir perform at white church ?
I don't understand why a black choir from a black college ( Mississippi Valley State University ) would give a free concert ( noon, May 16th ) at a white Episcopal church in Key West, when there is a black Episcopal church here in Key West.
I would think there would be an outrage from the black community.
I've never heard any backlash from this event. I'm outraged. Is anyone else ?

Well, are you outraged ?
I'm outraged are you fucking kidding. I go to a 98% black church. The black community is currently mobilizing to stop me.

I'm mobilizing to stop you, too, but only as a minor front in my War on Christmas.
In all seriousness, though, is this somehow one of those things that a Southerner might be able to make sense of, but which just baffle a secular Yankee? I have no cultural frame of reference for this.

Don't worry my church doesn't like Christmas(because the date isn't correct). No I can't make sense of this. I guess I'm just not white enough or ignorant enough. I'm working on it though.
I keep trying to convince myself that she means it's an outrage that they did not ALSO play a concert at " the black church " but sadly her phrasing makes it difficult to allow for that.
I guess she just wants to exercise her Freedom of Association.
