The Republican horde has decided to leave Congress the same way they ran it: Like assholes with a total lack of class. The GOP has decided the manly thing to do is leave a half-trillion dollars of unfinished spending bills for the Democrats to deal with. The moves means Democrats will have difficult time setting the immediate agenda they were hoping to jump into to put pressure on the president.

The work was supposed to be completed this year but the elections arrived and Republicans took time off for campaigning. Then they had their asses handed to them and have decided to walk away from their job like children. Originally the Republicans said the lame duck session would last until December 16th, but now it will end on December 8th – with little done.

Some Republicans are attempting to spin the move as good for American and good for the party. They say avoiding the budget work will avoid a lot of pork spending and therefore the GOP party won’t look so bad. I guess they think the six years of out of control spending we have just endured will be wiped out by one month of good behavior.

"The last thing Republicans need is an end-of-Congress spending spree as our last parting shot as we walk out the door," said DeMint spokesman Wesley Denton.

Uh huh. But the real reason for not doing anything was revealed by a GOP lobbyist.

"Other stuff may get pushed off the table," said GOP lobbyist Hazen Marshall, a former longtime Capitol Hill aide. "It kills (Democrats') message."

Hold your head high, you are doing fine work.

Hey Republican representatives! Do your goddamn jobs like you said you would when you were campaigning the people who put you in your position!

Nobody likes a sore loser who is willing to dick over the rest of us who actually want the Senate and House function like they are supposed to. I can't believe how many old white men are willing to act like total irresponsible children.

The Democrats need to call out the Republicans who are doing this to them, and rub their noses in it and hit their asses with a rolled up newspaper like anyone would who is training a puppy.

Not to take sides, but it is interesting how everybody gets on FearTheReaper's case for posting articles that are viewed as being bias inaccurate rants. Now, when somebody who has apparently never posted in the news wires before, speaks up the tables seem to be turned.

Ignore these other philistines, you made an extremely accurate observation, FTR is biased.

The rest of you should be ashamed, picking on someone who is obviously mentally subnormal is cruel and unfunny.

It does lack class.

They didn't do their job - and instead performed grandstanding, passing meaningless resolutions, and trying to score cheap electorate points with their base.

Let's say I work with person A, and everyone knows A is leaving at the end of the month. If A basically says, I'm not doing any more work, I'd kick A out. And not pay him/her. And make sure A never works for the company again.

At the expense of all of us. Even if you favor smaller government, having them do nothing isn't what you want. I think you have 2 real choices - they're lazy, or bad at their jobs. (Yes, bad at their jobs includes letting politics or sour grapes interfere with doing a job.)

First, this Republican Congress was already the least active one in the history of the United States:

In the Sixties and Seventies, Congress met an average of 162 days a year. In the Eighties and Nineties, the average went down to 139 days. This year, the second session of the 109th Congress will set the all-time record for fewest days worked by a U.S. Congress: ninety-three. That means that House members will collect their $165,000 paychecks for only three months of actual work.

What this means is that the current Congress will not only beat but shatter the record for laziness set by the notorious "Do-Nothing" Congress of 1948, which met for a combined 252 days between the House and the Senate. This Congress -- the Do-Even-Less Congress -- met for 218 days, just over half a year, between the House and the Senate combined.

The word "bias" doesn't work here as this is an opinionated discussion of events. Accusing someone giving their opinion of bias is like accusing a Suicide Girl photo of trying to be sexy. Well, duh. Bias is valid criticism when someone pretends not to have an opinion.

Disagree with the opinion, but it's based on reality. The Republicans controlled Congress for 12 years and the executive branch for 6. They had the power to get things done and freeze out Democrats. They not only worked the fewest days in history this year, now they want to leave early.

Delay of spending bills didn't "always" happen - it's a pattern of the last decade. Even then, this is one of the worst cases ever.
It's unclear if this failure was intentional or not, but it's a fucking big failure. If you can't do your job after 12 years of being the boss, you are not just a bitch, but a punk as well.

Sigh. I'm really tired of simplified "it makes no difference, they all do it" crap. It's dumb, cynical, dishonest simplification. It's like claiming a punch in the face is the same as stepping on someone's foot, because both involve injury.

False equivalency is what assholes use to excuse their behavior as no worse than anything else. Asshole politicians do this most of all, pretending politics is some magical tainted realm beyond that which normal humans occupy, where all is equally bad and equally justified. It also allows them to blame "politics" for real decisions made by real people.

Bullcrap. This inaction could result in massive cuts for those depending on Medicare, among other things. Real humans suffering real damage because the group in power can't put aside strategy and infighting and do the right thing. Nice.

People buy into this "it's all the same" as a form of laziness or pretending it has nothing to do with them or their choices. Why not just post "la la la la not listening!"
