NEWSWIRE

I'm lost

NOV 22, 2006 06:37 PM

As a boss, Nancy Pelosi is a huge fucking bummer. This week the new Speaker of the House announced she plans to start the new Congress on January 4th and and keep that shit going for several weeks.

Usually Congress convenes the first week of January after a brutal holiday recess and swears in new members. Then they take some well-earned time off until the president's State of the Union Address at the end of the month. But Nancy the Impaler has different plans, she want Congress to work. Bullshit.

Pelosi plans on starting the new session off with a back breaking 100-hour agenda. She hopes to put Bush on the defensive by driving the agenda. Boss Nancy will quickly tackle many issues including passing ethics laws and raising the minimum wage.

"It is imperative that we waste no time in addressing the pressing needs facing our nation," the San Francisco Democrat said.

Usually January is a cakewalk for the president. He gets to leak plans that will be unveiled during his State of the Union. But this year the news cycle will be dominated by Democrats who should have several bills waiting for Bush by the time he makes his speech. On behalf of Congress, may I say, "Thanks for ruining fun, Nancy."

I honestly wonder if this will cut into the Presidents much needed (and constant) vacation time. I wonder what his ranch will without him there? I mean, its going to be a lot hard for him since he wont be able to run a "puppet" congress anymore. Good on her... about time someone decided that these people need to work.

God forbid they actually do some work.

Anyone know how many recesses they take per year? Or how many times Bush has taken a vacation during his tenure as President?**

** Too lazy to look up the figures myself. biggrin

The last Congress was the laziest one in the history of the United States. They worked the fewest days of all of them. I'm glad Speaker Pelosi is putting the fire under them to get some stuff done.

I agree with just about every other posting. It is definitely about time these people in office realize it is a job. You know, the kind you have to show up to and actually do some fucking work.

i'm just glad it's time now for the other party to show how they can be incompetent in their own way. Maybe after a while of this, people will finally give up their "voting AGAINST" mentality and start demanding quality from someone somewhere.

Maybe Pelosi will actually make them work 5 days out of the week. How crazy would that be?

Well, the recent Republican congress was working roughly 3 days a week. And that's when they weren't on recess, which was seemingly 80% of the time. The excuse for the brief work week was that they needed more time to spend with their families and in their districts. Hell, maybe they had it right. I propose we institute 3 day work weeks, and at a minimum we spend 1 week out of each month on vacation. Fuck productivity.

Bah. Bush will swing his veto club so hard you'll feel the earth shaking in Toronto.

I wouldn't be so opposed to a lazy congress if the few times they did meet weren't to deprive us of life, liberty and property....

Who in their right minds would expect Congress to work more than 93 days out of the year? Doesn't she know congresspeople are constantly campaigning? They don't have time for all this governing bullshit.

I've been saying this for years, but it obviously won't happen. I doubt anyone with a vowel at the end of their name will have a snowball's chance in hell anytime soon.
