I'm interested in the voting preferences of S.G. members or if they even plan to vote at all. We all know it will be skewed left, but there may be individual races that come up in the discussion.

Tough to tell. Sheldon Whitehouse got significantly more votes in the Dem primary than Chaffee and Laffey combined in the Rep primary. Chaffee's well-liked and has a powerful name, but we're very much a blue state. Then again, Linc's purple, not red. As much as I love Linc, I've decided to vote for Whitehouse to help the Dems take Washington back. He can thank AbeVigoda for my vote.

As for governor, I'll probably vote for Carcieri. I'm against virtually all of his social policy, but we need clean government more than anything and he's made some bold moves in that direction. Fogarty will probably win. In the last dozen years I've known hundreds of people who have a connection to him and said he'd be governor some day. I know we're a small state, but the number of people who've been talking about him for years is remarkable.

I personally think that Caffee will retain his seat in the Senate and rise to the occaosion...I know allot of people don't like him (particularty "real" republicans but most moderate folks and liberal democats see Chaffee as an ally to there cause and seeWhitehouse as just another contentder for Chaffee to defeat. While Whitehouse has some great Ideas for RI I don't think that he'll be able to get the majority of the votes come election time. Chaffee has repution in the Senate and his old mans reputation to back him up. Plus he's basically gone against everyithing Bush has done so that will really put him on the plus side with /RI voters.

As far as Carcieri I think that he may be in trouble. While his goals are good I don't think that he's done a signigigent amount in the time that hes been governor (allbeit better than LInc Almond) to clean up the state of RI. He's constatly thrawtered in the state house by the democrats and if Fogerty wins there will be order and less chaos in RI but I think that will lead to more corruption in this state, which is something we defanitly don't need. Personally I can't wait to see Buddy Cianci out of Prision and turn providence aournd even moreso. He was the thinking mans mayor. Better than Caccherri.

Honestly, someone really has to suck quite profoundly to deter me from voting Democrat in most elections, so that's what I'll be doing.

Gov: Strickland. As if Blackwell has a chance anyways.
Sen: Sherrod Brown (finally a legit chance to unseat DeWine, though I'm not going to lie, I actually like our other Republican Senator, Voinovich)
HR: The day I don't vote for Stephanie Tubbs-Jones is the day she's not running. I think she'd be a great cabinet person under a democrat

Gov: Richard "Kinky" Friedman (IND)

For HR and SEN I am still undecided. I am pretty sure I am either going to vote Democrate or Libertarian but none of the candidates are that appealing.

Well that assumes he is racist. Everything he said was in joke and his jokes have always been about everyone, it would be like calling Carlos Mencia a racist. In 1960s he picketed an Austin restaurant called The Plantation to get them to integrated. So while he jokes might have been in poor taste I think calling him a racist is a bit much.

It's in the bag then, and Ohio hasn't had a Democrat governor in 16 years.

I'm now in south-western Ohio for the first time in 12 years, so I will be voting Dems. right down the line (probably for the first time in 12 years as well). It's interesting being in a competitive district again. I voted all over the place when in NY over the past 10 years.

Down 12% in the latest poll, opponent over the 50% mark in said poll, coming off of a bruising primary with a hard-core club for growth candidate, and right now having an "R" next to your name in a blue state with scandal after scandal hitting the Republican party is the last thing one would want. In a normal off year election I think Chafee has a hard time surviving, with the way this year is shaping up he'll be a private citizen in January.

So that joke taken totally out of context from 26 years ago is the basis for him being a racist. He was trying to make fun of bigots. In that same show he did jokes about a multiple of different groups including Jews. Like I said it might have been bad taste but it doesn't make him a racist.

I registered to vote on the 4th. Assuming Im not to late im voting INdependant all the way.. Im just curious to see if the lack of major Party influence has any positive effect on state of affairs.

Gov: Kinky. I wanna see if a comedian can do the job (Bill Maher/Lewis Black for Pres in 2008 tongue)

Not too sure about everyone else.... Got 4 weeks to decide, anyway.
