ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (CNN) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin has rejected a suggestion from U.S. President George W. Bush that his country should emulate democracy in Iraq.
During a joint news conference Saturday in St. Petersburg, Bush said he raised concerns about democracy in Russia during a frank discussion with the Russian leader.
"I talked about my desire to promote institutional change in parts of the world, like Iraq where there's a free press and free religion, and I told him that a lot of people in our country would hope that Russia would do the same," Bush said.
To that, Putin replied, "We certainly would not want to have the same kind of democracy that they have in Iraq, quite honestly."
Does Bush even live on the same PLANET as the rest of us?
It's gotten so bad that even in Russia they know our leaders are idiots . Can't someone give Bush another pretzel or something , maybe a new mountain bike to fall off of ?
Oh yeah like Russia is the ideal model for world democracy. Forget Iraq for the moment, look at the good old US of A for how a democarcy should be run.

Why don't you go live in one of COUNTLESS democracies that you think are so much better then the US. Lord knows that the USA is the ONLY country in the ENTIRE world with "political corruption, self interest groups, and shady agendas."

I didnt say the US was the ONLY one.... just that we're no better at it than any other democracy...

no, really, keep going. remember in 2003 when Iraq was going to be a flowering democracy by late 2004? and in 2005? and in 2006? Iraq is awesome, and its a shame i cant go there, because hotels are booked for the flowering democracy festival till 2009 at the earliest.

If that is true then why are we the most successful democracy, the most prosperous people and the only super power in the entire world?
Yes, the US has it's flaws, no government can be perfect because no man is perfect. But we have done a damn good job and there is nothing wrong with other countries looking at us as an example of how to get it right.

Like I said I wasnt sure about some of them... (checks wikipedia ) ahh here we are... US, European Union, China, and India are considered Superpowers as so far, the term being invented in 1930 to describe the US and USSR, so I guess the Roman Empire is out.

You can't
forget Iraq for the moment
because it's what makes Bush's statement stupid.
If he said Russia should be trying for things that are currently working in Britain, Sweden, The USA, Switzerland, Canada or just about any other democracy. then his statement wouldn't have been stupid. But he said Iraq, which is still a mess, and hence he deserves to be mocked.

I believe that the world's most prosperous people are the people of Luxembourg. Norway's people are also ahead of people in the US. If you were to look at such things child mortality then there are dozens of countries ahead of the US. On proportion of population held in prison I know the US is doing very well, but I'm not sure if it beats all other countries to that title.
Being a super power isn't really an end in itself, nor does it relate to the subject of democracy. Accountability is perhaps the key feature of the democratic process. Sadly, I am too ignorant to suggest an especially good candidate for the title of most accountable government.

AMERICA FUCK YEAH!!!
And those geopolitical scientist people consider the US something they like to call a "Hyperpower" with countries like England, France, etc also being considered superpowers.
I think they define a hyperpower as requiring more than three superpowers to soundly defeat it in an all out fill tilt war for survival.

Oh jesus. First of all, we are far from the "most successful" democracy. Any political scientist worth a damn would agree to that. And as to why we are so prosperous, I think that can be generally described as being the net effect of the ruling classes (meaning the marriage of government and big business in the US) systematically and very effectively hoodwinking the rest of society into remaining the fodder from which the fortunes of the few are made. In which case, that would be one of the worst examples of democracy that we could show the world.
In fact, the United States was never intended to be a country where the government was chosen by or representative of the entire populous. Don't believe me? How many blacks and women voted in the first 100 years of our "democracy"? In fact, how many white men voted at the beginning of this nation? Only the rich ones. And it was only through the ruling class realizing that by manipulating the lower classes against other factions in society would help them retain power that things ever changed from the way things originally were.
Yeah, great example to show the rest of the world.
