Sometimes a parody is worth a thousand pundits. Stephen Colbert succinctly explains just why Democrats love to hate Joe Lieberman.

It's nothing short of amazing that the Democratic party's 2000 vice presidential candidate is now one of the most reviled pols in office amongst the party faithful.

However, with all this attention being focused on the primary election, has anyone bothered to ask the question of whether Ned Lamont can win the actual election? Is a DINO better than an actual Republican?

I don't think there's ever been a funnier political satirist than Colbert. The smartest thing Stewart ever did was to hire and then later produce Colbert.

Now, that's not to say that Stewart isn't funny.

P.S. anyone who doesn't recognize Colbert for founding the word "truthiness" should be anally punished with a watermelon.

That was an excellent episode. The daily show was actually funnier yesterday though.

I was very skeptical of the Colbert Report when it first debuted because it didn't quite have its satire legs fully formed - the episodes came uncomfortably close to "we're serious about this...maybe..ha...ha?" But when it soon lost its fear of fully embracing the satire instead of walking the line, I fell in love.

The End.

Great piece.

Joe Liberman is a Neo-conservative wacko who is indistinguishable from the neoconservative wackos in the Republican party.

Frankly, I would rather have a real Republican than a Democrat who votes like one.

Colbert actually came from the Kilborn days. He was the last one. That was still the best batch of reporters they ever had, in my opinion. The show with Stewart is a lot better than it was with Kilborn, but the segments with A. Whitney Brown, Brian Unger, Stephen Colbert and Beth Littleford were fucking hysterical. Back then no one knew who they were, so they managed to get interviews with some rather surprising people who weren't in on the joke. David Duke comes to mind. Once Stewart took over, even before, I think, the show's reporters became sillier and less satire-based pretty much because most people knew what they were up to.

Where would you find a real Republican?

They seem to have all been purged in favor of pseudo-Republicans who spend money like there's no tomorrow while letting the government creep ever further into Americans' private lives.

Last time I checked, both of these tendencies are diametrically opposed to both Republicanism and conservatism.

Well, that's one reason Sascha Baron Cohen ended the original U.K. version of Da' Ali G Show. Once public figures and even just random business owners were in on the joke, it became much more difficult for him to pull it off.

I personally think it works great in the U.S., because most people here (especially public figures) don't have HBO, and if they do, probably don't know about or watch the show. And they can show the show in both countries, with the Brits getting to laugh at stupid redneck yanks.

Sorry, you are right and I should have been more explicit. And, given the neo-conservative (AKA liberals against communism) bent at the moment the fiscal policy is not all that surprising.

I guess what I meant was someone who is registered Repubublican
