Jesus, Connecticut politics have gotten weird. Unseating pro-Bush Democrat Senator Joe "mentum" Lieberman from the senate seat hes held for the last 18 years has become a pet project for lefties all across the country.
Democratic voters in Connecticut, self nicknamed the land of steady habits, seem torn between Lieberman and his challenger, bazillionaire and political neophyte Ned Lamont.
On July 3, Lieberman announced that despite the results of the democratic primary, he would still run for the Senate. If Lamont wins, Lieberman announced hed run as an independent.
Two Democratish candidates in the race could mean that each will cancel each other out, the same way Perot sucked away Republican crazy votes from Bush in 1992 with his midget Rambo stand up comedy routine. Thats unlikely Connecticut, though boring, is a fairly blue state but possible.
Except as of today, it looks like Alan Schlesinger, the mostly unknown Republican candidate wont be able to benefit from the dueling Democrats, as hes being "nudged" out of the race over gambling concerns.
And, fittingly for the state, its the most boring gambling scandal ever. Instead of losing scads of cash to sclot machines, ala William Bennett, what the poor schmuck did was give a fake name to the Indian Casino to get a "wampum" card. Also, he allegedly counted cards. But I think we all know that can only help his political career.
Republican Connecticut Governor Jodi Rell is urging Schlesinger to leve the race over the micro-scandal. Even though the state has two ginormous, tax-lucrative casinos, I'm sure the Governor is fuming over the gambling thing, As opposed, say, Schlesinger's immigration crazy talk.
Leiberman must be stopped. Threatening to run as an independent is tantamount to political blackmail. He knows he has the jewish Floriday votes the Dems need. But everyone is forgetting one thing--voting is rigged now anyway.

If it's rigged them let him do what he wants. It's not like it matters right.
I'm a pretty hardcore Republican and Lieberman is the only Dem I've ever voted for. Ned Lamont is from my hometown here in Greenwich and I can tell you first hand hes a dirtbag. The man has a severe drinking problem and has been in trouble a few times for domestic violence. Granted many on the left don't like Joe because he tends to lean right alot but he has been in for 18 years and has done alot of good for this state and country. Lamont's smear tactic commercials are just dirty and personally I think he looks like he wants to come thru the screen and molest small children. Now maybe Lamont has changed over the years but I find it hard to believe someone with his issues could pull a 180 that quick. Not to mention his political failures in this town, if he can't serve a small town he certainly can't run for the senate.

Are you saying Lamont should be President rather than a Senator?
