I don't like it when someone raises their voice at me or gets aggressive, I'm a passive peaceful person that does no harm to anyone. So today (it's only 13:00) I've been screamed at 5 times and every time I've just brushed it off but I need to vent. I'll list the events and I'll ask if it was justified.
1. I get to the office and park in front because I was carrying in sound equipment that wouldn't fit through the turnstiles. As I get outside to go park my car at the rear entrance, I hear the woman shouting at the car guard that he allowed someone to park in her parking. It was not his fault at all, I park in one of the unmarked parking bays so that I wouldn't upset anyone, I told the person why I had parked there, they wouldn't listen and went off on how it's been their parking for 3 years. I just walked away.
2. I didn't wear a black shirt in support of the anti rape campaign.
What was said (shouted) to me, "Why aren't you wearing a black shirt?! You men are all the same, you don't give a fuck about women until it's your mom, gf or sister that's been raped"
Fact, my sister-in-law was date raped when she was in university by her friends. oh and she fell pregnant but lost the baby. Back then she was still a really good family friend and she worked for my parents. So the comment made by the person was not cool at all.
3. A tensile machine in our lab has custom written software on it and that is specific to that machine, so it's an application I have never seen. We have an elite group of people here that are untouchable and do what they want so the software disks for it has not been kept. The IT department hasn't been allowed to work on the machine before either. So after 2 hours of doing a restore from a backup I found from 2005, the software still just spits out errors. So I track down the suppliers (no one had their contact details) and I arrange for them to come out to have a look at the software but they can only send out a technician on Monday, which is better than Wednesday. I get a call and their department Director and explain the situation and then the screaming started.
4. The department Manager phones and demands the telephone numbers and names of the people I spoke to, I tell him that they will only be able to send someone on Monday. He screams "it's unacceptable" he phoned them and they said they'll only send someone on Monday.
5. Our internet for users is only open from 12 - 1 any other time during the day it gives you a default page that says access denied out of those hours. So people open the page at 11:55 and I get calls saying "the internet is down" and I tell the people to refresh the page at 12:00 and they can then browse the net. Yesterday I showed a lady how to refresh her browser and she said she understood. So today I get a call saying it doesn't work still, I go downstairs and I prepare myself to be nice and the 1st thing I hear when she sees me is "Today we're going to have a fight! It's going to be You and me! I've been waiting all day to read the news and it doesn't work!" I quietly walk up to her desk push F5 and politely said "I showed you yesterday what to do and you said you understand" her reply was "oh I wasn't paying attention". I try to be understanding when it comes to the people that don't know what they are doing on a PC, like how to right click on a *.zip file and select extract here or they misplace a document after trying to double click on it and accidentally drag and drop the file into another folder. But ignorance like that I can't stand.
Is me wanting to be treated like a human unreasonable? We as people can only take so much abuse. I know this is only my side of the story, but so far it feels like everyone is against me...
I think today has just been a bad day and I need to go have a few drinks with friends.
