I was on dialysis for only a year and a half- ESRD secondary to systemic lupus. My mother donated a kidney for me. But I immediately developed lupus in the allograft as well. I'm now seven years out, and my creatinine is stabilized, so, all things considered, I'm doing well.
And let me tell you- the things I learned from being a patient (and coming from a medical family) helped me out a lot when I was in nursing school.

I had a transplant about 7 years ago- my mother donated for me. I went to school for a year on hemodialysis- not fun. I was on dialysis for about 19 months total- I was very sick and they always had to remove about five liters from me, so I got a lot of bad headaches. They ended up transplanting me even though the disease to which I had lost my kidneys was still active- had they waited any longer I would not have been healthy enough for surgery. So, yeah- now I'm a nurse looking for jobs I can do with my various physical liabilities.

ha! You know - I never thought of it that way - but especially in Texas! Hope you had a good TDay - I did my usual day of nothing and football...(it was good!) I have to find the link for the test - someone at work sent it to me...The back still hurts, but he was able to put a shorter piercing in where there was not split...Which sounds as gross and painful as it sounds...
