I love the new (super) computer and the new tablet
I've been going back over old photos looking at what I have, and revamping the website... and you know, I wish like hell I'd have shot more in RAW. I have some great shots that are basically shit because I shot them in JPG. I was shooting in JPG because at first all I had was a 512MB card, and I shot in JPG to get as many shots as possible. I just bought a 2GB card for the trip to Seattle (TWO WEEKS!!!), so now I have that, and a 1GB to as back up. more than enough to shot RAW only from this point on.
I'm constantly thinking photography... learning this new digital world. and while I miss some things about film, I do like digital more each day. I loved developing negatives, but hated all other darkroom work. I simply loathed making prints. boring teadious process. but I love photoshop (especially with the new tablet), it is the digital darkroom. but it's a completely different animal. in alot of ways, you can do things with digital that would have been a pain in the ass with film, if they were possible at all.
when we look around, our eyes quickly adjust to the light on the fly, so we can look at a bright sky, then into shadows, and see detail in both. the camera can't do that. you get one aperture setting per shot, and usually it's a compromise... but with digital, I can take three shots, over exposed, normal, under exposed, I can then combine pieces and parts of each to get an end photo that would be more like what we see, and I can do it in minutes.
but I miss photographing people. but I feel creepy as hell going out looking for models. creepy factor times 10.
