She was born on Thursday, September 18, 2008 @ 9:37 am weighing 4 lbs, 11oz, and 18 inches long.
She has black hair and big, blue, chinky shaped eyes like just like her mommy. haha..
Here are a few pictures of her. ^_^
She came a couple weeks early but is healthy and doing well. I was going to be staying in the hospital until Tuesday but they let me come home tonight. She'll be in the NICU until then (she's fine, they just want to keep her for evaluation.)
But yeah, Wednesday night I thought I peed myself when I bent over to get something out of the oven (haha, it freaked me out, I was like, wtf) and told Nate when he got home around 8 something. Then after debating it we decided to go in just to get checked out. They told me I was dilating but that my water wasn't broken (I'd been having cramps for two days but nothing regular and then they went away that afternoon.) Well, they were wrong. I got up to go to the bathroom and when I was done more amniotic fluid started coming out of me and they were like "oh!" and sent me to be induced because contractions had not started yet.
Then came the fun part.... pitocin is what they give you to start contractions. One of the unfortunate effects of pitocin is that it causes your contractions to be much harder than they normally are if your labor is allowed to progress naturally. Generally, they give you an anesthetic when they administer this hormone of doom. Well, I found out I wasn't allowed to have an epidural or anesthetic because it put me at higher risk for a c-section. I had a natural birth with Isaac. I was in labor with him for five fucking days without pain medication, and it was hell, but I can't say I remember being in half as much pain. Thing with the c-section is that the machine they use to stop you from bleeding out would've messed with my pacemaker, and they would've had to demagnetize the battery, which would essentially screw me over. We had NOT been informed of this until after the fact. Anyway..... sometime in the morning they gave me some crazy narcotic that didn't do anything to dull the pain, but made me completely incoherent. I had no clue what was going on, the rest of the details are from what my lovely husband told me. I mean I remember a little bit, but it'd be like me trying to give you an accurate account of a night on the town with a bottle of whiskey.
Everytime I contracted the baby's heart rate decreased and lo-and behold, they were going to do an emergency c-section! ha, well, next thing I know I see bright lights, I'm being moved to a different room, and I get the nurse had the bright idea of pumping my uterus full of saline to see if that helped. Luckily, it did, and I avoided a c-section. The cord was wrapped around Isabella's neck twice but they managed to fix that by sticking their hands up my crotch, and yeah, um... I might not have known what was going on, but it still hurt like fuck, and I cried like a big pussy. But yeah, she was out pretty fast, and started crying as soon as her little head popped out. That's one thing I DO remember clearly. ^_^ But thennnnnnn....... I started to bleed out, and they couldn't stop it at first. Doc even stuck his fucking hand up into my uterus to try to get it to slow down and I can't even describe that... they gave me 5 syringes full of morphine but unfortunately the way my body metabolizes things, it again had no effect for my pain, but made me loopy as hell. I don't remember anything after that, other than that they let me hold Isabella for like two seconds before whisking her away to the NICU.
I woke up sometime in the early afternoon and after checking on me for a few hours they wheeled me over to the NICU to see her. Her lungs had collapsed but she was a little fighter and managed to continue breathing on her own by using her diaphragm and chest muscles. They had her hooked up to a nasal canula with light oxygen flow and kept her on a heated bed. Less than 24 hours later she was off of both and doing better by the hour. She's a very healthy baby, just needed a little help at first.
Then I guess they were debating on giving me a blood transfusion because I'd lost so much and though the bleeding was obviously slowed down I was still losing more than what was normal. I got lucky again and managed to avoid that. :-)
By yesterday (saturday), Isabella and I were both doing well, and I was going to stay in the hospital until Tuesday, which is when she will be coming home. But I was just too uncomfortable there, and so I got to come home tonight around 9 pm. But I will be going back everyday until she's home to stay with her. She is so0o0o fucking precious...
She's just beautiful!
Congratulations, hun!
