My ink cherry has been popped.
I went to TRX Tattoos & Piercing in St. Louis, MO last month and consulted with Anna about a memorial tattoo for my mom. She always referred to me as "Boo" instead of my name, so I wanted to get something done on my arm with a Super Mario Bros. Boo. Her favorite item in the world was this portrait of me as a baby in this beautiful gold frame, so I decided to go the Super Mario 64 route and have Boo coming out of an oval replica of that exact frame. If you've ever played that game, you entered stages by jumping into paintings and created a ripple effect. We've all got to come out of our frame sometime, I suppose. I added a Shy Guy being scared away to represent all of the shit that I've dealt with since she died, mostly because Shy Guys are awesome. Excuses, excuses.
Anna used my reference materials and added a lot of her own style into the tattoo. Needless to say, I was blown away by the final result. These pictures don't do the vibrant colors and amazing shading any justice (our house is notorious for poor lighting; I'll grab some in natural lighting soon enough). I love the van Gogh-style artwork in the painting, which was all her idea. We were going to go with reds and purples in the painting at night but she switched it up and went with magenta and various shades of blue.
