alright, enough about boys for one second.
so my next big project, ive decided...i'm either downloading or converting my cassette tape collection to mp3's.
this is a huge undertaking, considering that about a third of my music collection is still on tape. and it being 2009, that's just fucking sad.
a little pictorial evidence...
behold, my tapes! (and a few jewel cases from the 90's that i just can't bear to part with.) i think there's about a hundred albums in that box. lol
in high school, there was a radio show on 89.5 wsou (seton halls pirate radio!). industrial revolution with dj's q and aj. now, here's how fucking nerdy i am... not only did i listen religiously every week... and not only did i tape the show every week (including taping this particular show over my beloved kris kross "totally krossed out")... but i sent them a fucking fan letter. decorated it with stickers and everything. on one of the shows i taped, they gave me a shout out for it- and the way they said "thanks for the letter", you can literally hear them giving each other the "i can't believe some crazy 16 year old bitch sent us a fan letter" look to each other.
and what better way to play said tapes then on a WALKMAN!!
and finally...
look at the date. that's today. (well it was, until this chick stayed up past midnight organizing her fucking tape collection like a DORK) 14 years ago today, i was 14. and my boyfriend, brian, recorded a song FOR and ABOUT me. that's exactly half a lifetime ago.
oh, and for the record, the song is really a noodling, 20-25 minute solo jam- no lyrics, he's just learning how to play guitar (which is painfully obvious), he relies way too heavily on his reverb pedal, and halfway through it you can hear his dog Rinney sneezing several times. how fucking romantic is that?
if ever i have felt like i was able to communicate with my teenaged self, it was in this moment. it's nice to see that half a lifetime later, i am still a sappy, lovesick nerd girl- one with a penchant for funny looking, artist/ musician types.
anyway, my heat isn't on and i'm freezing. think it's bedtime for bonzo.
[edit] it suddenly hit me how crazy it is to think about a time before the intarwebs, when the easiest way for me to discover new music was to tape it off the radio. you fucking kids these days have it so easy.

i remember back in the day before mp3s, we'd rip a song in a .wav format. 16 mb per song give or take. made your computer run sloooww as shiiiitt. haha
PS...If I can find my dual cassette deck boombox and my Kriss Kross cassette, I'll make you a copy. I still have a few blank Memorex High Fidelity Normal Bias 60 Minute laying around. haha
