Went and saw jarhead last night. Tuesday all day is $5 movies and although Im usually not known to be frugal I am always thrilled to find a bargain.

I spent 12 years in the USMC and served during the time of Desert Shield/Storm. I did not read the book but may soon do so to discern the differences between an Author who is frankly full of Shit and an Industry who consistently disappoints me and often takes unnecessary poetic license. The Film does have an authentic feel to it and in my opinion probably 30% of the film was feasible. In my experiences the Corps is colorful enough and tales told regarding exploits or back stories do not need to be embellished to that extent.

An issue of significant importance to me is all in all, most of the people serving in The Marines do so in a Noble manner. Oh yes it does have more than its share of knuckleheads, and many who serve do come from humble beginnings but the system is tried and true and sincerely is effective. The Film for the most part missed the mark in representing the Corps. Ya Jarheads are insane but in a good way. Again Hollywood disappointed me. Cant someone collaborate on a film that is entertaining, has substance, and hits the mark???
