"SANTA FE - New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez has declared a state of emergency stemming from a natural gas shortage.
Tens of thousands of New Mexicans are without natural gas and therefore without heat today.
Parts of the state have been experiencing below zero temperatures, and an apparent surge of natural gas use has overloaded the system with the higher demand.
Schools are closed in most of the state, and some areas have opened emergency shelters to help those affected."
New Mexico is not meant to get this cold...thus people freak out and we have gas shortages. Campus shut down in an effort to conserve energy for the city of Albuquerque. The animal shelter in Espanola called upon the community to donate electric heaters and take cats and dogs in as fosters because the heat went out. Our gas stations are shutting down and WalMart is more crowded than on Black Friday.

I do wish that it would snow here every now and again but my family was telling me about how bad things are out there.
My family is in the East Mountains but I heard Artesia has gotten the worst of it.
I hope that everything works out okay and that this cold crisis is resolved ASAP
