Hi II'm not an activist, but I play one on tv. You see Im a late teens to mid twenties something US citizen and I want my political opinion to be heard so I make sure everyone knows Im "involved". The only problem is, that Im not involved. Oh suer I like to say I am, because it makes me look worldly and smart and super extra cool, but reall in all actuality, I wouldn't know state policy from a hole in my head. All I know is that George Bush SUCKS. He is the worst preseident we have ever had. Why, you say? Well thats simple. He's the worst because,.....well he sucks because.....uhm, I don't know, but thats what the people on tv said, so its the cool way to be, (whats that word again, you know, where like you have stuff in your head and it tells you stuff, like that thing smart people do? thinking for themselves? is that it?) OH AND I got this really cool t-shirt at the mall with Bush's picture, that says "Not MY President". Hahaha I rock.
Seriously though, I HATE people who blankly pretend to be political but have no idea what they are talking about. I dont give a flying fuck if you are pro-bush or anti-bush, be that way because of your OWN PERSONAL RESEARCH. Don't watch ten minutes of the news and think you know whats going on. The news is (sadly but unavoidably) bias.
My personal opinion is that, Yes, George Bush is not a good president, but my reasoning behind that stems all the way back to his campaign and the several tax and funding programs he promised but did not deliver, and within the first two years of his presidency, he had almost completely destroyed all the progress made during Clintons run to get us out of debt.. Then he got involved in the war against Iraq to try and gain the type of support his father got for going into the middle east, because he was floundering with his promises to stop Bin Laden. He knew the almost 90% approval rate he got when he made his statements during the 911 events, was dying out and he stupidly tried to trick the moderately intelligent people of the US into believing there was a justification to attack someone he knew he could have a victory over easily, Sadam. had he been smarter and simply said, "the search for bin Laden is taking more time than I am willing to spare, and we need to focus ourselves once again on making this country thrive" people would have loved him. Sadly he didn't. BUT NOW MOVE ON. Stop whining. If you don't like our government policy, DO something about it. And do not try to give me this little speech about, oh Im just one person and they aent going to listen to me, or Im just a kid they dont care about me. Thats horse shit, and if you would put the playstation controller down for two seconds or heaven forbid, sign off of the internet (see that little round thing that says POWER on yuor computer?) and take yourself to the library for an hour, you could easily figure out how to get your voice and rational ideas heard. By the way dispand the military, fire GW and give everyone a million dollars is not a rational idea, so don't try and get it passed, then complain that no one listens. Anyways, is George Bush a bad president? There is no way to prove that yes or no, its always going to be a matter of opinion. The facts are these however. About 70% of the non war and defense related policies he's tried to inact to help the US, have been implimented, his military actions are far less than about half of our previous presidents (some of whom dropped nuclear weapons and personally ORDERED torture of prisoners, even during the civil war ) .
So in my opinion, is he a bad President, yes, because he went about to many things the wrong way and he he tried to "look tough" when he should have "acted strong". Is he the worst president we have ever had? Not by a long shot. so if you want to dislike GW have a reason for Gods sake. dont be a Lemming. I love NoFX too, but fat Mkie isn't the messiah, and he doesnt have all the answers , research for yourself, and if you really really dont like Bush, go vote for someone else, Thats how you make a difference. Standing in a parking lot being ignorant and marching in a circle, doesnt do shit, but make you look simple
Now as for the US military.... I wont stand here and try to deny that bad shit happes because of people in the military, because we all know it does. But bad shit happens in the police forces, and the churches, adn the medical field, and in the alt porn industry, and in big business, and in little business, so if thats your only beef against the military, then too bad for you. there is quite a bit over 100,000 people serving in th military in one way or another, so 20 some people doing bad (hell we'll make it 100 some) doesnt count as the majority. 100/100,000? Not exaclty 50 % is it. And no Im not saying that only 100 people in the military are assholes, I know there are bound to be more than that , but I was in the military and I never tortured so much as a fly and wasnever ordered, asked, or nudged to, so do not say that the entire military and all of its people are corrupted. yes a few bad eggs can spoil the batch, but there are way too many good eggs to count this one as ruined. As for our actions in the "war on Iraq", we're there for the wrong reasons. Do i think we shouldn't be there? No, because what the majority of our soldiers are doing over there is working on attaining a reasonable and fair government, where there was once a dictator, crushing whomever he felt like, and that is not a bad thing. The problem however, si that Bush went over not to help the iraqi people, but to help himself look good, and because of this, not only did his plan backfire, but also alot of things happened in a way they shouldnt have and alot of innocent people got hurt. Now alot of people try to say that the US military gets involved when and where they shouldn't, and to a degree thats, not incorrect, but it is something that the US has in the past set up ourselves to do and while it often makes us [the military and the US] look like the bad guys, it is a role we are happy to take for one simple reason. one of us [the people of this site] were alive then but, a few years ago, the world had a little problem with a few people in power, kind of like Sadam, trying to push other countries around, and the US stayed out of it. No matter how much other asked us for help, we did our best to not get involved because in the beginning we were directly told (look it up) to stay out of European affairs. Eventually though one of those people pushing to gain power, decided to force us ito that war with a direct attack on us. We entered the war and along with several other countries (amogst them the Russians deserve most of the credit , even over th US) we ended the war and saved countless lives. Now nobody thought we were the bad guys then, did they? So how is it that because we have now gained a policy to "butt in where we arent wanted" and now we're the ones in the wrong? SO yeah if you wanna call the US the bad guys, for going places like Korea and Viet Nam and the middle east, and stopping people who are trying to take over and cause people problems, then the next time you're in trouble, why dont you skip our number on the speed dial, and cry to someone else, oh and if you're an American ctizen who wants to protest the US getting active in any outside fights, theres a harbor in Hawaii, why dont yo go wave your plackards there, and see how long you have to march before several large polonesian/american men come and want to have a chat with you about the family members whos graves they have to visit by boat.
If you like your freedoms, (the right to dress the way you want, and think the way you want, and the right to access this website, and where you can sit on your ass and not get shot for not working) then maybe its time to grow up and realize that freedom comes through trials and adversity. Or you can always go ask Bracket what its like to be from a country where you're forced into the military at age 18 whether you want to go or not.
The point to this whole rant.... If you want a change,... make it. Everyone likes to say poor me, no one listens to what i think. Yeah well there are only two reasons why you cant have a voice.
1. you dont speak for yourself and voice you OWN (not the rock star) opinion.
2. You speak for yourself, but refuse to go about it the right way, (no I didnt say the governent way, the right way, there is a difference) Make a plausable argument, If you want the military out of Iraq, go do research on the governments open reasoning for being there. The good thing about our government is that its got this big flaw of having to listen to the citizens, and if the citizens express themsleves properly, the government cannot legally deny them there desires. and if they try, we set up our system to have ways of making change.
