I was talking with angelvanilla and fenris23 the other day about her obsession with famous people and it got me thinking. I don't go all crazy over movie stars or the classic famous people.
The ones that get to me are the authors, the writers behind the scenes. The ones that dream of what might be and share those dreams with the people who can do but not dream and in doing so make the change in reality possible.
Too many of the truely gifted with numbers, electronics and the laws of physics have none of the creativity required to come up with things to make, but after watching too much star trek some guy sits down and says "Warp fields, I think I can see how that'd work."
I mean sure the current best models on it would require the energy from a significant portion of the stars in a galaxy to move one ship faster than light speed (and remember, it's not really moving the ship faster than light speed, it's moving the space the ship is in) but damned if someone a few years down the road isn't going to figure out a way to do it on duracells. Space elevators might actually fall from the heavens to let us rise from the earth in our lifetimes. Terraforming is just a question of patience and investment at this point. The matrix is coming, cyberspace is getting more and more real.
Pardon me, I need to go stalk some sci-fi authors.
