I just disowned my father today.
Again.
Goddamnit.
EDIT
Well, we're talking again, but I don't know yet whether it's an improvement.
It's a sordid and pathetic family drama, one that wouldn't even be coming up if, for instance, I were actually capable of the self-reliance that American capitalism expects of me. Well, maybe it would anyway.
Moreover, as with any family drama, explaining the incident requires a backstory going back decades. I have neither the patience nor the inclination to write that up now, especially not in any balanced perspective that does justice to all sides. (Really, I'm just avoiding studying right now.)
Let's just say for the moment that my father is a very manipulative and needy man, and he used a crisis of my own for an attempt to maximize his emotional leverage over me, and that outraged me. That's a fairly accurate summation, although it leaves out the shameful source of my crisis (poverty, frankly - at my age I shouldn't need loans from my parents), which would put me in a somewhat less sympathetic light.
Anyway. I thank you all for your kind words and interest.

I had no idea of the testimonial!

Hehe. I know. I never had a reason to look, and apparently, there isn't a note sent out or anything.
