Hey everybody,
Glad to hear so many people are diggin' the new pin-up.Yeknomyknuf is such so damn sultry isn't she? I'll have it finished by this weekend and I'll start on some new ones ASAP.
Phew, this has been a long ass fuckin' week, but I'm glad it's over...well at 5:00 at least. I feel like going out and gettin' drunk and laid. Of course I say that almost every night to one of my roommates to try to get him to get out of the house so we can all get drunk, but he fires back with, "nah, that's OK." Oh well. I wanted to take the dude out to Cabaret Royale for his 30th birthday a couple of months ago, but he was too embarrassed to go. I said, "c'mon man we'll put the suits on, I'll call up a couple of more people, we'll all go, have some martinis, watch naked women, and we'll all be The Rat Pack for the evening. Super Cool, Super Fly!" He said, "nah, that's OK." Argh!
I have just written Hugh Hefner again and I sent him a CD with about 10 of my pin-ups on there to see what he thinks. He saw my stuff about 2 years ago. I sent him some (in retrospect) crapy copies of my work with a letter saying that at some point I'd love to do some work for Playboy. He kept the copies and wrote me back saying he liked them very much but...."there is a limited market for this sort of pin-up art today. However I wish you the best of luck." So, this time around, I did not mention his magazine that, to me, has been really going downhill for the last 10 years. I just gave him the CD, told him it was a gift from me to him for all that he's done and asked if I could have permission to use some of the images from the 50's - 70's Playboy issues to use as reference for some upcoming projects.
I really have no interest in doing work for Playboy, unless they offered...but I doubt it. I hate the plastic, photoshop, fembot look. Dammit, real women don't look like Playmates. Real women look better, and real women's personalities are better than Playmates. That's why my art is all about real women, not the fake look in magazines. Choose some damn reality.
Here's a question for everyone in the good ol' UK...has anyone seen a BBC TV show from the early 80's called "Not the 9:00 News"? It had Rowan Atkinson in it and I have an LP (on the BBC record label, no less) with a few skits from the show. It was funny, but I don't know how funny the show really was since it's not played here. I'm not even sure if Benny Hill reruns are still on anywhere. Benny, RIP man.
Well, that's about it for right now. I'll be busy trying to figure out what I want to do this weekend when I'm supposed to be doing reports, makin' copies and metering mail. Ooops. Take care everyone, and go out and have some fun.
friday night update:
Whiskey and smokes and Sam Kinison on the TV goin', "AAHHHH AAAHHHHHHHHH!" Awesome!
