Hey guys, I'm switching back to the written blog format to this week's comic review due to the fact that I did this over a span of a few days. I apologize it's taken so long to get this up. I may have to start doing a "top 10 comics of the week" review because I'm starting to get stretched a little thin.
Any of you DC Comics readers, check out the last splash page. It's an ad for Grant Morrison's Multiversity which he has been working on with collaborators for years. I'm super excited!
Walking Dead #127
This marks the start of the "A New Beginning" story arc and it certainly feels like one. This appears to be a very new direction for the story with a few very interesting surprises in this issue. I'm really thrilled with what this issue has done. Also, it's 40 or so pages at $2.99 so you get a good chunk of story.
Batman: Eternal #6
This issue features
as well as Batwing, which is his first appearance in Batman: Eternal, I believe. The issues so far seem to focus on the younger members of the Batfamily (I include Harper Row and Stephanie Brown even though neither are technically at this point in the story [Batman#28 had a flashfoward to the future of Batman: Eternal which alluded to this. If you're reading this series and you haven't read that, you might want to pick it up. ]) and those close to Batman, such as Jim Gordon. It's nice to have a series with others playing the lead with Batman as a supporting character. I mean that in the best possible of ways and this is one of my favorite reads each week without exception thus far.Starlight #3
Duke McQueen has returned to the alien planet his visited so many years ago. The planet is much changed, and for the worse. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite Millar books and you get to see a bit of McQueen badassery which I enjoyed.
Batgirl #31
Batgirl faces off against Ragdoll! Ragdoll is a villain I have not encountered before but apparently he's been around forever. I guess that shows you how much I know. I enjoyed this issue and the movement that Pasarin puts into Ragdoll is kind of weird and creepy, but in a good way.
Shutter #2
In the last page of issue 1, you get to see this crazy, vibrant glimpse into their world and in this issue you get to explore it more. With an aerial hovercraft chase and strange creatures mixed in with familiar aspects of the world we know, Keatinge's and del Duca's world they've created is very rich and interesting with a story to match.
Lumberjanes #2
The Lumberjanes go on a perfectly safe canoe ride. Nothing could go wrong, right? Wrong. These are mysterious woods these campers are in and nothing is normal. This is such a fun serious and all of the characters have such big personalities, which is great. It's a nice lighthearted read which is always nice to have in the stack.
The Field #2
Those of you who read last issue will remember that our main character (who doesn't remember who he is) was taken in by some crazy murdering man named Christian. Now, this same murdering man is claiming he's trying to protect him. Sure enough, the bad guys are coming. But who's really on his side? And why are people calling him "The Source?" There's a lot of questions and I'm interested to find out what the answers will be.
Stray Bullets: Killers #3
In this issue, we find a teenage/ early twenties girl who finds herself babysitting for a killer known for cutting off fingers. I do like how if you look at the numbering, they've continued it from issue one so this issue has pages in the 80-something range. This series is dark in many ways but it does have elements of humor within that make it such a great read.
The United States of Murder Inc. #1
This new series is brought to you by Bendis and Avon Oeming, the guys who created Powers. In this series, the country has certain territories that are run by criminal organizations. Our lead, Valentine, is being inducted into one of these organizations. But there is a lot more going on than they're telling him.
Okay guys, that's it for me. I did leave a few issues I read out for which I apologize. I have been unfortunately too busy to get my comics all read. On the plus side, I just submitted my fourth set on the site today. Hopefully it gets accepted!
