So hey guys, I was promising that I would get my blog up about this week's comics a few days ago but I am still feeling pretty crappy and all I have been wanting to do is sleep. I did finally get the last of my comics read yesterday morning so I will post about a few of them, better late than never. I'm doing this sans pictures this time because like I said, I'm feeling pretty crappy.
The Bunker #1
This comic actually came out last week and I missed it somehow. Done by Joshua Hale Fialkov and Joe Infurnari, this comic was apparently a digital first series. I read only print (I just like having a physical copy, I get that ebooks are super convenient) so this one is still new to me. But holy hell this is shaping up to be a great book. Telling the story of five friends who bury a time capsule and uncover a bunker containing documents and letters written supposedly by themselves in a post-apocalyptic future. This issue pretty much blew me away and I am really looking forward to seeing how this story unfolds next.
Undertow #1
This comic follows a race of ocean dwelling creatures that are evolved far beyond the primitive terrestrial humans. A few of these beings have decided to train themselves to eventually colonize land. It's an interesting concept for a story and I'm curious to see where the creative team will take it.
Batman and Robin (Two-Face) #28
This is the last issue in the Two-Face arc and it comes to a pretty climactic head. There was a pretty big "oh shit" moment in here for me and it wraps up the arc nicely. The teaser for next month : "The Hunt for Robin." This could mean a couple of things, Bruce is either continuing on his quest to find a way to bring Damian back or will (probably reluctantly) be taking on a new Robin. Either way, should make for an exciting read. I've been really loving Tomasi's storytelling on this book and this next arc would probably be a good one to jump on if you're not already reading this title.
Alex and Ada #4
I am a big fan of the Luna brothers and lately they've been doing a few projects independent of each other. Joshua Luna wrote and drew a limited series called "Whispers" which was quite good although it did end up taking quite a while to come out in its entirety. Now Jonathan Luna is working with Sarah Vaughn who is doing the script while he is doing the art and co-plotting. I was very excited to see this one in Previews and it is really living up to my hopes. Alex is a guy living alone in a world where the level of technology has reached the point of sentience. However, due to a terrible massacre, sentient machines have been declared illegal. Despite his protests, Alex's grandmother sends him a life-like android which he calls Ada. Alex is however not satisfied with Ada's lack of self-awareness and has gone in search of a group with some answers. This issue brings about a big change that will be a turning point for the series.
Morning Glories #37
This comic was the first comic that I started picking up at issue one and have been collecting uninterrupted since then. I really love Nick Spencer's work and this is one of his crowning achievements. Morning Glories has been called the "Lost" of comics because of all of the mysteries going on within the story. As soon as one thing is revealed, five more questions pop up to take its place. This issue focuses on Akiko and is told in a dream-like state. I am loving this series more and more as it goes on and as the plot thickens.
I ended up reading a few more comics this week but I really don't have the energy to go through them all. I keep thinking this nasty sickness is going away but then it comes back and hits even harder. I finally had to break down and call into work today. So the game plan is to just take things easy and rest and hopefully come Tuesday, I'll have a proper and on-time comic blog for you all. Apologies and thanks for the understanding. <3
