Wow.....what a day I had today
I got to sleep in (always nice) and then this afternoon I did my first trip of the year down the Shenadoah
(for those who dont know....during the summer I work as a guide taking rafts full of paying custumers down white water rapids....VERY FUN!!!!)
But before I went down ....I need to get some new sandels....so I ran over to Walmart. Well......guess who is working there now. Remember a few entries back when I said that I ran into the girl I went to prom with? Yup.....she is working there now
We chatted a bit....she is engaged and has a cute lil kid now (she showed me a pic). She seems really happy now. And Im happy for her....though a lil jealous....but thats okay...I'll live
We also talked about that tat she got that is the same design as the necklace I gave her. She said that she lost the necklace somehow...and paniced and searched the web for it...then found a pic and got the tat the same day. I asked her if it was just cuz she liked the design....she said that it was cuz it meant so much to her.
I still dont know what I should think about it (I still cant imagion WHY it would mean anything to her because of the events of that night) ....but this time Im just kinda leaning to the happy side....I kinda smile now when I think of it.
Anyway....I couldnt talk to her long or I would have been late(though now that I know where and when she works I may stop by to say hi sometime) so I got my sandels and headed to work
Had a good trip....the weather was beautiful and the water nice. My crew though.......6 twelve year old girl scouts
Have you ever had to take 6 twelve yr/old girls down 7 1/2 miles of water!?!?!?! DAMN I AM TIRED RIGHT NOW!!! And they liked to scream....alot....Im amazed I can still hear.
And there was one point when someone in another raft found a lil snake (it was like 10 inches long) floating dead in the water. So of course they threw it into my boat....and the girls screamed....alot. Took about 15 minutes til they stopped....and one girl was on the edge of crying cuz it hit her leg as it came in
Dont get me wrong though...I had a great time (heehee....I love being paid to have fun
) and the lil ladies were pretty cool....Im just really tired now and my ears kinda hurt
I cant wait till it gets busy there.....its still slow now but should get really busy once summer starts(and then I can get out of 7/11). Im not sure what Im making now...(we get paid by how long we have been there....and Ive been there like 8 years) The new ...umm....I guess he is an assistant manager....guessed between $30 and $35 a trip. So Im going to make a pessimistic guess and say 25 a trip. On a day where I work both of the 2 trips that go down a day (which should happen very often) I'll get 50....which is the same as a night at 7/11. But then I get tips from the people I take down too
Got $20 from the girl scouts
(their parents were in another raft...so they tipped all us guides 20) Sooo....$20 is a good tip...and most times than any other amount that is what I get....so thats possible $90 on a good day
Today is the first day in awhile Ive smiled for most of the day (though I dont think anyone could have noticed)
UPDATE!!!
I just got an Email from the father of the girls I took down
He had his cam on the river that day and took this really cool pic
The river is not all rapids....there are stretches of calm water in between....so we liven up those dull points with water fights. Im the one thats throwing that bucket full of water at the other raft
