I'd planned an eloquent, respectful, grammatically correct last blog. But now that I'm writing it for the third time because of this shit ass new site... Fuck it! I'm tired.
Adios bitches! It's been a great eight years. I'm proud to say that I've met 85% of (what was) my friends list.
"Why" you ask? "The new site?" No... Not entirely. While I am not a fan of the new site, I did feel that the old one was getting stale. Little did I know that changes had already been happening.
Advertizing:
What used to be "Come to SG and meet comic book loving, poetry writing, tattooed pin up beauties" became "Hey, join SG and see NSFW pics of her and nude videos of her". I used to defend SG from any who called it porn because I honestly felt it was more than that. I don't think I could make that argument anymore.
The girls:
More and more hopefuls seem to be going pink. And not the hopefuls that that have been active members for months (if not years) with one or more set to show their determination. Rather, girls only on site for a few weeks with just one set which gets picked and fast tracked and ready to be shared on Facebook. One such girl had the audacity to spout off what the site is all about... to members who have been around since she was 13!
Even more seasoned SGs seem less active. I've grown sick of the same old blog: "Hey guys! Sorry I haven't been around much. But I have a set in MR you should go vote for!" Believe me when I say I understand that life gets in the way sometimes. But if you don't have time for the community, then I don't have time to vote for your set!
The burlesque tour:
At first I was ecstatic to hear that the tour was back! I had missed the first tour because I was still overseas with the military. But my excitement shifted to frustration when learning that some of the dancers weren't even true SGs. Just like with the hopefuls, many had to earn the title SG after much effort. Yet because they can shake it on stage better than others, they are given the title like it's nothing?
And finally, the new site:
I'm not even going to bother. Like I said, I understand there are going to be issues at first. The gripes are plentiful in the boards. In fact, they were plentiful months ago when the beta site was launched. And they went ignored! THAT'S what I cannot forgive. "Followers" are bullshit!!! (sorry [not sorry])
The aforementioned are all symptoms. The problem is that our community is dying. Or rather, being killed, from within. SG has slowly become more company than community. And by extension, we have become customers rather then members. As such, this customer will be taking his business elsewhere. My decision to leave was made easy by the fact that my membership expire today anyway. I hope that I am somehow overreacting. I hope that I am wrong. I hope that I might return to the site in a few months after bugs get worked out. Time will tell. But I fear this is the beginning of the end, and not just for me. Remember Myspace?!
