Ahhh so excited. Orientation was a very mind-opening experiance. I'm ready.
In highschool I got a lot of shit for "wasting" those four years - not getting involved, anti-social "ihatetheworld" tendencies. But now I realize how happy I am that I didn't focus my energy on it. It's just pointless. Why push myself toward something I was never drawn to?
I am happy for the way things turned out. Now, I am absolutely utterly excited about college. About getting involved, writing for the newspaper, working on campus, meeting people, joining clubs, dorming, partying my little white butt off, and being free. Not free from my parents, but free from the societal implications of highschool.
I don't have to BE anything. Anybody and everybody is welcome everywhere, and stereotypes are long forgotten. One of the group leaders for orientation told me about how antisocial she was in highschool and how different college is.
I'm so excited. All I did was sit around with a bunch of english majors talking about books. People seem to be more directed, more intelligent.
It's a breath of fresh air, and goddammit, my lungs were killing me.

people are definitely more intelligent in college. In high school you are supposed to be there. College students are there because they WANT to be there meaning that if they don't care then they are wasting a lot of money. It's not true that all college students are like this but it's definitely better than high school. Good luck on your new journey!

This is a fun time of existence. Dont get too disheartened when you realize there is still plenty of petty bullshit to be had in the ivory tower of academia.
