Wow what a week.
It started pretty badly with the breaking of a shaving mirror and then having the boiler breaking so there was no hot water or heating, then at work i crashed two of the scanners within 10 minutes of each other and my computer decided it didnt want to work with UDK anymore so i couldnt do the work i needed to do for uni - horrific start to the week.
Still things got a little better at uni on tuesday when me and my friend Alex got our control system to work in the game we were making, it was an awesome feeling to see it working and working well, our game is gonna be awesome!! Alex brought some lego in today so that we could make a cube shaped controller to house the touch sensor and accelerometer inside, its looks a little messy but it worked as a first iteration of a controller. Every other student in the room came over to see what we were doing and to play with the lego!
Wednesday me and 3 of the guys im living with went to London with our uni to take part in the demonstrations outside parliment to protest against the proposed increase in tuition fees that students will have to pay. At the moment it is 3.2k per year which with the students loans puts each student who cant pay for the course outright about 18k in debt by the end of the course - a huge amount to pay off before you even start work. With the new fee cap that debt would raise to about 40k which would be nearly impossible to pay off, so naturally alot of students are worried and pissed off and its putting many people off going to university in the first place.
About 50,000 students turned up during the day to take part in the march and the atmosphere was pretty peaceful to start with, though a few activists who most probably were not students made it turn ugly later on in the day. We say the startings of it when we were leaving the area to go into the west end:
The window of the Conservative Party office got completely smashed, later people invaded the offices.
By the time anything was kicking off we had gone to the west end for lunch and then to the Forbidden Planet megastore to look around as none of my friends had ever been there before and wanted me to take them. The place had not really changed much since i was there last, it was great to bump into one of the guys who still remembered me, we had a great chat and it felt like i had never left.
I picked up a new McGuiness action figure and a copy of Lady Mechanika #0 while my friends were running around seeing all the cool stuff as if they had gone to geek heaven
Superman Blue, im building up quite a collection of Ed McGuiness styled figures now:
Still no Green Lantern yet but soon...
The new trailer for Tron Legacy got released and im so geeking out for that at the moment, its going to be sooo awesome.
Two and a half more weeks till i get to see these guys plkay live:
Have a fun weeked everybody!
