Today is my baby sister's birthday. "Baby" sister is probably a misnomer. She turned twenty. Regardless, in my mind, she'll always be my baby sis. She just got back from Paris a few days ago. So not only is she no longer a teenager, but she's also a world traveler. I looked at some of her pictures from the trip. She looks so much older than the last time I was at home. She's been letting her hair grow since then. It's almost a foot longer now.
I watched '500 Days of Summer' today. It made me laugh. Mostly because Summer reminds me of the first girl I fell in love with. Actually, the whole story arc of the movie mirrors that relationship. I know exactly what the writer meant by the addendum after the opening credits. There's a line in the movie that really made sense though, and I wish someone had said this to me when I was trying to get over that first love. To paint the scene: the protagonist, Tom, is feeling heartbroken, and lost, trying to figure out what to do now that this girl, his "true love", has left. He confides in his younger sister, and with nothing but love in her voice she says, "Look, I know you think she was the one, but I don't." That part made me smile. Why is it that our friends can often see our relationships more clearly than we can?
I love this song, and the video for it is perfect:
