Having visited ground zero a couple of times since that tragic day four Septembers ago, i find it difficult to feel anything but deep sorrow for all parties involved in such a needless loss of life, but i sorrow for the victims and the terrorists. What happened that day was unjust but i dont feel we in the western world can stand up on a soap box and preach the wrongs of what happened that day until we look at all the wrongs we have done in the past all over the world throughout history, as an example, ironically on September 11th 1973 in Chile there was a military coup which over threw a genuinely democratically elected President from power, this coup was backed by the CIA simply because the Chilean peoples choice of leader, Salvador Allende, was a Marxist - the Chilean peoples freedom was taken away from them by the western world just as the terrorists attacked ours. By no means do examples such as the demise of President Salvador Allende justify what happened on 9/11 or 3/11 or 7/07 for that matter but i now feel that we cant sort out todays problems with terrorism out (if we can at all anymore anyway following that happened after September 11th) until we face up to the wrongs that our western societies have inflicted upon others.
But today is about remembrance and we should all take a couple of minutes out of our lives and just think about those who where lost from our world that day.
RIP.
