The First Perspective
There is nothing but myself, and there is no-one but myself. In myself i see only others, in others i see only myself or i see nothing
BOREDOM IS THE STUDENT DRUG OF CHOICE
A student wrote: It must be clear to anyone who considers the state of modern society that it is in rapid decline, which moral values being progressively exchanged for ambition and greed in an increasingly corporate consumer society fixated upon capital gain and physical possessions - our world has become a capitalist distopia at the expense of its soul; the result of this is a sapping of the worth and meaning in life and the values that matter are monetary ones. The world has become soulless and empty, the masses are apathetic and shallow - desensitised and distracted by TV screens and superficial amusements that twenty-first century technology has to offer; big business and corporations are running society thought their control of the economy, trade and the stock market, so that they now become more influential than the governments who are also financially dependent upon big business and thus subservient to their will. All things are now (treated as) nothing more than commodities to be prostituted for profit. Peoples opinions are dictated to them by advertising and the media and anyone foolish enough to think for themselves and question or care is socially ostracised by the conformist nature of the world - free-thinking and individuality are mocked and/or dismissed and any counterculture is quickly assimilated and sold for profit...
- Taken from The Reasonable Animal, 2001, by David Newman, student.
However, E.E. Cummings put it more succinctly: Unbeing dead isnt being alive
