I had an awesome day today, i went to the edinburgh international games festival and played some awesome games, if you're interested - Outrun 2 on the Xbox rawks as does GT4 on the PS2 with some very lovely albeit not original motion blurring which was very noticeable - maybe a bit OTT on that - (re: see GTA Vice City on the Xbox for a good example) but Doom 3 and Stalker both on PC look like sour grapes, Doom is too bloody dark and Stalker in multiplayer mode looks like a duff with little in the environment that is changeable or damageable. The fringe festival was ace!!! I saw Osama Bin Laden kicking the shit out of George Bush in the middle of the street, it was perhaps the only time in the western world you'll see a crowd of people shouting "go laden! go laden!" - it was so good that i am going back on monday for one more day before i head off to austria for the week.
However, i was informed it was going to be raining so i never brought any camera's with me and yes, you guessed it - the weather was perfect! Mind you, if i'd went with cameras it would have rained so i can't really win. I also broke my Mp3 Player yesterday so i bought a new iPod from the virgin megastore for 219 - a bargain i thought since it was the 40gb version - i really can't afford that but i need something to play music to me when i'm away otherwise i might just go insane next week...
BTW, check out a band called TAT - see link at bottom of post - they're a new punk rock band from london carried by the extreme network and surprisingly they're actually really good - they've got a single called "peace, sex and tea" out now in some hmv and virgin stores or you can pay Karmadownloads.com 99p for a unlimited mp3 version at 256kbps, no bullshit digital rights system and its legal - now that's a pay-for-mp3 system i support...
Clicky here for TAT
Here are some photos of the laden .vs bush fight... i wish i had a proper camera with me!
Bloody hell... i look so serious don't i?!?!?

You can get last minute cheap flights out of the US to London for like $300 (150 skrilla) if you look carefully and book last minute. And 5hrs on a plane aint nothing!
Mplayer
VLC
Both VLC and Mplayer are available from VersionTracker and MacUpdate , they're good sites for a trawl around if you haven't found them already. There's loads more media players out there, but these two are pretty good and cover most codecs between them.
For NZB files, check this out this or this, same thing, different places, you'll need to be comfortable with the command line (terminal.app), think DOS, only way more powerful / useful. You can often find some of the more unusual stuff for the Mac available for command line only, since it's really easy to port command line applications from any BSD UNIX to the Mac, doiing the graphical user interface stuff is tricker, so a developer may offer a command line version of an application because they have no interest in adding a Mac GUI. This sort of thing can be a little ugly (and un-Mac-like), but it's always worth a try. There are a lot of Open Source developers switching to Macs, so this situation will improve.
Some research suggests VLC may do the job with .ogm files. Unfortunately there's always politics and personal allegiances (i.e. bullshit) where codecs are concerned, which may be why there's not that much about yet.
Hope this helps, let me know if you remember the other issue. It may also be worth asking if anyone has more information here. Didn't want to respond in the thread, it was too dull to bump
