i just wrote this five minutes ago, fools.

the moon was pagan and it made the white corners of the houses more furious.
their angles grew up up out of the ground all around me like fractals
and from somewhere I could hear far-away birds.

enclosed by those plaster walls
was the telling of a heart, a small hug
the quiet movement of a hand over my coat.

various promises played out of me
and I took in all your whisper-words;
would you cover me if I fell asleep in the cold?
and I said yes, yes.
