I just had an elightening conversation. i'll post some of it. (actually all of it, HAHA)
Me: thats why i hate the industry. one of the best original Hardcore bands done for because its not marketable. while Disturbed and Slipknot and Korn are still popular, and Kelley Osbourne is doing Madonna covers while Fox basically hands people careers with American Idol. Its fuckin bullshit.
Mike: yeah. pop-culture's demand for substance and authenticity has gone to an all time low.
Me: In Flames and VOD are so much better than all these "metal" bands that are popular. talent, uniqueness, creativity, and individuality obviously arent important in music
Mike: well, what's the most frustrating aspect of this whole thing is that you see a name being shifted from one group to the next. i mean, you and i growing up identified with a genre that we KNEW was metal. and to us, it was something real. that shit was all about heaviness and aggression. anything else was just something different. now, it's like we've got these kids with huge pants, slipknot work shorts and hair dye they bought at hot topic because now it's cool to be metal, which is something NONE of those bands would have backed 7 years ago. so, we essentially have to give up something we all supported because it's just not selling to the mainstream, who weren't even buying all those records in the first place.
Me: yeah. its hard for us too, because we were the outcasts, now its cool to be the outcasts, and we look like followers. while everything we stand for gets shit on.
So basically, Vision of Disorder broke up because they aren't accessible enough to the main stream, but they are far better than most metal acts out now. Its also 'COOL' to be metal and be different, while the lifestyle most SGers live and have lived becomes a trend and we become trendy. While all our ideals and our attitudes get mushed in with what people think we are portraying.
well fuck that. This has got to change. its sad to see something i love and hold dear die out and get raped because of the idea of Mass Appeal.
