I wasn't able to sleep last night so I penciled down this fun but nauseatingly sad little poem/song. It's sort of a song about why I am afraid to write songs, which is something that has to some degree stunted the progress of me and the rest of my band for literally years now.
The only thing that I know how to draw
Is stars
Make lots of dots then
Let them fall
on other people's cars
Give me water paint and spread newspaper on the floor
I'll paint a yellow smiling face
And pin it to your door
After hanging it too soon, we'll see I've been a fool
I've gone and made some poor man
In China cry and drool
I pull universes from my brain
And mount them to a wall when I'm through
If I imagined Heaven and hung it low
Then would you let me love you?
I wrote about a superhero who could save the world
Inspired one man to provoke
A radioactive squirrel
Much to my dismay he soon discovered he could fly
And vengefully he killed his town
With lasers from his eyes
I'll take a world from inside my soul
And wrap it in paper when I'm through
If I told you I can conjure Hell
Then would you let me fuck you?
I was by myself last night so for you I wrote a song
Hardly had I begun to sing
When I knew it was wrong
The only things I sing about are outer space and love
I checked the lawn, your pod was gone and
You're a million miles above
In a moment I could fix the earth
And gladly give it all to you
Dream a different life for us but
Would you really want me to?
Looking back at it now, I think maybe this came partially from catching Sphere on HBO a few days ago; i don'd know.
Personally, I think it would fit in pretty nicely amidst a handful of Syd Barrett's deranged little kiddie rhymes, and it's the first time since I saw that movie Adaptation a year or so ago that I've heard of someone using their frustration over creative stagnation to fuel creativity.... i dunno maybe real songwriters like the other 2 (& 1/2?) guys in my band do that all the time- i'll have to ask them.
Anyway, we're in the middle of recording a demo/ep (depends on how it turns out) right now, on this very computer actually, so I suppose if anyone thinks the "song" is cool I'll stick it with guitar thing i've been messing with and see what happens. I had to put in writing that those are my plans so I have to look at it again later- I guess I'm hoping my porn site journal will hold me to it since I dont know anyone else that will.
