*catching breath* oh me, oh my. this could possibly have been the busiest weekend i've ever had. too bad most of it was driving to and from sf. i volunteered for those two slams friday & saturday night. the show friday was absolutely amazing. some great poets i'd never heard of and fucking SAUL WILLIAMS. oh lord. i got goosebumps. dead prez was cool. i kind of get tired of hearing "everyone say 'fuck the police!!!'" who cares man. say something worth listening to. they were good though. and for my first hip hop show, i was impressed. it's WAY different than a punk or hardcore show. you see, everyone that's there is there to have a good time...not be a member of the "scene" or have a goddamn fashion show. they were passionate. if someone wasn't performing on stage, someone was performing in the crowd. i absolutely loved it. this might sound strange but...it made me realize how much i miss being around black people. i stuck out like a soar thumb. it was great and i met some truly amazing individuals. people that have given their entire lives and all of their time to making a better world for their community in any which way they can. i met kids from minnesota and texas and socal and new mexico and arizona and san francisco. i can't say enough how well i felt after the show...despite it getting out at 1am and not getting home till 3am and having to get up for work at 5am! boo-urns. no bueno. but it was worth it. last night was a different vibe. it was the slam finals and we weren't actually set up inside the show so i didn't get to watch. but on the brightside i actually had company this time (friday night i had to work the booth alone). and good company at that. funny how you meet people you already feel connected to a week before you move. but that's how life goes. in any case, corie and i had to set up on the same table as team chico who made it to the quarter finals. i shit you not, this woman gave us maybe 1/5 of the table. what the shit? and to top that off she bailed for the entire show to go watch and left us in charge of running their booth. HA! awesome. oh no, please impose on me. it was cool. she was nice and all and it wasn't like it was swamped in her absence. we ended up taking off at 10 so i could avoid missing more sleep than i already had. despite my efforts, i was late to work AGAIN today. bah. this shit can't become a trend. i guess it's like last year when i got those two speeding tickets in one week. so i suppose late twice in a week or two every other year is ok. the boss wasn't pissed and with five days to go i can't imagine there's much action they'd take. so there. my weekend. lots of driving, lots of new friends, too much work, not enough sleep, and i registed four liberal voters. suck it g double u.
skunk - where are you, buddy?
oh yeah, and i had my first argument with a crazy communist friday. bleh. she kept saying the action that MfA suggested taking wasn't enough. we were still using "the system" and what we really needed was an "armed revolution." and that's all i could get out of this idiot. i mentioned that revolution is a very generalized term and she'd have to do better than that. nothing. so there, we need armed revolution. uhhh...rise up? fucking hippies. what made me angry wasn't that she had bad and thoughtless changes in mind, but rather that she was one of those people who was there solely to argue with people. god, go away.
moving update 2005:
as it turns out, i'm not allowed to transfer stores mid pay period. so it was either go a week earlier or a week later. with that said, i'm no longer leaving in 2 weeks but now six days. i need help. please help. or figure out how to stop time so i can catch up.

what makes you think you're more of an asshole than i am??
Go to yoga (Bikram) on Soquel across from the Ugly Mug. Drive out to the Garden of Eden (off the nine) . . . hike along the railroad tracks, sunbathe by the water, have a burrito at planet fresh . . . tortilla lime soup at saturn. Oh man . . . Um . . . get lost in upper campus. Go to the farmer's market one last time. Sniffle. Mariannes. . . . northern oregon blackberry. mmmm. yes. . . is that all? um . . . climb tree nine (finally), maybe bumper cars on the boardwalk.
Yeah, that's all. I just wanted to share. And if you have a soul, you'll like these things too and want to do some of them before you leave. Because sweet christ, santa cruz is rad. Someday you'll miss it.
. . . Why do I leave you so many comments?! . . .
