i haven't worked in four, count em, four days. ahhh christ. and everyday was gorgeous. man, i don't wanna go back! only 6 hours till i have to wake up. boo-urns. great times this weekend...
i finally saw tatu and morgan when they came up for the sea otter classic. for those not hip to the drip, the sea otter classic is one of the largest bike races in the world and it happens just down the bay from me in monterey. my buddies work for bike magazine so they were up here doing there thing. i, of course, get to take advantage of their fabulous position and tag along for the ride so to speak. to be honest, we could have just sat around a table and talked all day and i would have been stoked. the bike race was a nice bonus to the company. tatu and i worked with each other everyday for two and a half years at our old job (a bike shop, who would've guessed?). he was my best friend and one of the biggest influences in making me who i am today. he's a wonderful wonderful guy. i can't say enough about how much i dig this kid. two years ago he moved to orange county and shortly after i moved to santa cruz. we haven't seen spoken much or seen each other a whole lot since then. in fact, funny enough, when i came up to him he didn't even recognize me. we passed each other on the way over and he mentioned to morgan that some guy had a chicago flag tattoo. didn't even register it was me. i love that.
long story short, we hung out, saw the sites, i decided to buy a new bike (was there any doubt?) and as we were saying our goodbyes, tatu looked at me but couldn't get anything out at first. he just looked in my eyes, shook his head and said, "man......i'm really proud of you." and he fucking meant it. he meant it so much. and i love him for it. that guy is so much a part of who i am today and i can't thank him enough for it.
there are some very big protests going on at ucsc right now. it started off as a strike for the blue collar workers at the school who haven't gotten raises in three years. but in true santa cruz style, and more specifically, ucsc student style, it's become a completely random protest targeting anything and everything. i guess a bunch of kids got arrested last night after they set up "tent university" at the base of campus. the school said it was cool if they did it but just not there. in fact, they offered them a spot in the quarry which i personally think would've been a better spot but they refused. so the cops came and arrested them. everyone's all uppity because they maced a couple people and used force to break apart the human chains. see this is what i hate about UC kids. rich motherfuckers that have never been told no once in their lives. they were resisting arrest, they were offered a different place to have their protest, the cops were using standard procedures. boo hoo. go pay your $20 fine and get back to your fucking philosophy classes and bong hits. hippies.
a couple days ago i was fed meat at a restaurant. that's right. i ordered tofu and got chicken. a few bites into the meal i realized they fucked up and she brought me the correct dish. when the bill came they still charged me for it even though they fed my vegan ass meat. i asked the guy at the counter to take it off and from the first word out of his mouth he was yelling at me. long story short, they accused me of knowing it was meat and eating it anyway. refused to refund the price of the meal until i started yelling and making a scene. then the owner said, "FINE! FINE! NO CHARGE! HERE! NOW GET OUT!!! DON'T EVER COME BACK!!! DON'T EVER COME BACK!!!" fucking banned for life. the shitty thing is they make the best thai food in town. i've already filed a complaint with the BBB. if you feel like phoning or writing or throwing a brick through their windows for having zero point zero regard for their customer's moral conscience you may do so at:
