I'm in a spanglish mood, mood music. Some old some new. Play while reading please.
Today at lunch, my wife and I were talking about the flutters one gets when they first start liking someone. You know, the phone rings and you think to yourself, "Its her, I know it's her... please let it be her." And when it is you get this huge shit-eating grin and hope it doesn't translate into you tone and speech over the phone.
I asked, "Were you like that with me?" She said, " Of course! I couldn't help it with you." "You seemed pretty cool when I talked to you", I said. "I'm just a good actor, you really made me nervous." I told here I was the same with her and that our mutual friend that first introduced us was tiered of hearing me talk about her. Donnie, was her name and she would call me a puss and ordered me to go talk to her. For that six weeks in summer school I just admired her from afar. I had never been that way with a girl. I always had found it easy to talk to people in public, but not with her.
I had a lot of regret that I never spoke to her and once summer band started I was able to make up for it. You see in my city the two high schools alternate between each other for a joint summer school, so one summer it's at PHS and the next it's at OHS. I thought I had missed my opportunity because I just knew she was at PHS and I was at OHS. But now I was starting the year out as a junior and she was starting as a sophomore, both of us at OHS. She too was in band and we started summer band together. Now in band I wasn't exactly a leader but I was more into my element. I then learned we had many mutual friends and I couldn't help but talk to her. While joking around with friends or just talking, she always showed up. She later told me that she was attracted to me because I was popular and made her laugh a lot.
One day she just told me, "I'm tired of waiting for you to ask me for my number, so here it is." I still have that corner piece of paper she tore off of some sheet music and wrote her name and number.
While dropping her off after lunch, my wife said, "Wait you didn't act nervous." I told her I was a good actor too.
We have been together for 13 years now and I lover her more now then when I asked her to marry me.
