Been an interesting couple of days.
My Dad was accepted to travel to the Ukraine to act as an election monitor. He leaves tomorrow for Ottawa for a day and then it's 10 days in Central Europe for him in the frezzing weather over there. Needless to say this has kind of changed Christmas plans for my family. It's probably for the best as he can't stand Christmas and this trip lets him go on and on about the great sacrifices he makes
. I admit I'm a little bit more concerned about this situation than the times he was in Bosnia and then Kosovo. At least in those two places there was already a war underway. The shit going on in the Ukraine could get pretty nasty over the next few weeks and that kind of uncertainty is a lot more dangerous. At least walking into a civil war you know to keep your head down
At work on Wednsday we got our Christmas bonuses. Or should I say loan because we have to pay the money back. Nice to see our boss is so generous(insert sarcasm here). I'm pretty grateful that I've been able to get ahead finacially the last few years so it's not that big of a deal for me but still...
We also got raises and the shit really hit the fan so to speak. The three guys who do nothing but stand around and complain only got .25 while everyone else got .50( me included). One of the three was so pissed he started wearing a sign on his back mocking the raise and got sent home for it. They do and don't have a point. Some of the people who got the full raise miss work all the time, steal from the company and get stoned at work. What these three don't seem to get though is that when you don't show up for work you don't get payed, as opposed to showing up and not doing anything. Which do you think the boss prefers?Oh well, not my concern.
Last week when I went to Vancouver I had something on my ind and it seems the situation is going to resolve itself one way or the other tomorrow. It concerns someone who was elected to a position and has discovered they are waayyy out of their depths. This person feels they are in charge and have the authority to do whatever they want if they don't get their way, sound like a certain President
. He doesn't realise that he can be removed and might just be tomorrow if he doesn't smarten up. It's a tough thing when ones on pride and ego gets in the way of doing the right thing. There's nothing wrong with admitting you can't do something, it 's the fact you tried that makes people admire you.
Hope everyone has a great weekend
P.S...Pics are up from the Vancouver Xmas party last Saturday. Sorry some look like shit.
