I have been watching/reading a lot of information lately and here are just a few of the absurd or crazy things I have learned. Oh and just so you know I'm really into Earth and Life sciences haha.
1. Fires burning in Indonesia are producing more carbon dioxide than the US economy. And in three weeks the fires have released more CO2 than the annual emissions of Germany. Mostly because of Palm Oil.
2. Over 50% of Americans say that they have no one to turn to in case of a crisis. This seems astonishing to me.
3. There are currently over 1500 active volcanoes worldwide, 400+ of which are in the Ring of Fire.
4. The largest penguin colony in the world is on Zavodovski Island in the South Sandwich Islands. Approximately two million chinstrap penguins breed on the slopes of the island which is an active volcano.
5. Three-quarters of the Earth's surface is covered with water but less than one percent (0.37% to be exact) of that water is drinkable.
6. Only 2 countries in the world dont share at least one color with the US flag, Mauritania and Jamaica (used to be three until the Libyan Civil war changed their flag)
Ignore the other two it was hard to find a pic
7. The newest species of animal was a wasp Discovered Jan 30 was a wasp called Dendrocerus scutellaris
8. 7,099 languages are spoken today.
This is a fragile time: Roughly a third of languages are now endangered, often with less than 1,000 speakers remaining. Meanwhile, just 23 languages account for more than half the world’s population.
9. The Oldest living tree (verified) on Earth is a Bristlecone pine ages at 5064 years old.
10. Oldest Known Tattoos Confirmed To Belong To Ötzi The Iceman Mummy aged at 5200 yrs old
I put up a spoiler in case you dont want to see old dried skin
Well I hope you all learned something from this and I had a ton of fun putting it together.
Thanks for the great blog homework @missy @rambo
Much Love
