SPIRITUAL FOOD FOR THE DAY 6/13/06
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - THE AMENDED LIFE
When I first got sober, I had no idea what it really meant to make direct amends for harms done. I mean, I knew what the step said, but it was really one of those things that, to know and not to do, is not really to know. All I had was a general idea, some willingness, and others who had gone before me and shared with me how it worked for them.
That was sufficient to make a start. If I knew then, what I know now, I probably wouldn't have done it right because I would have thought that I knew better. That is my Alcoholic intellect in action.
What I found was that through the amends process and making direct amends to others for harms done, I was really amending the wholes that I had punched in my own spirit over the first 28 years of my life.
What I know today is that the pain I felt making certain amends, and the pains I feel when I have to make amends today, because I'm not perfect (damn it), are just my soul healing itself as I become right again with God and act in a manner consitent with being of maximum service to Her and my fellows.
TODAY'S REMINDER
Making a mistake is Human. Not appologizing for my part in it is EGO. Ego is self-will blocking God's path for me. God's path for me encourages love for others which includes appologizing for harms done.
QUOTE FOR THE DAY
"Virtue is more clearly shown in the performance of fine actions than in the nonperformance of base ones."
----Aristotle----
PRAYER FOR THE DAY
GOD,
PLEASE HELP ME TREAT OTHERS TODAY, AS I WOULD WANT TO BE TREATED TOMORROW. AMEN.
I PRAY THAT YOU HAVE A GOD DAY, AND KNOW THAT TODAY, LIFE IS GOOD!
