So, I've been doing an awful job of keeping this blog updated and keeping in touch with all of you. I promise to do better in the future
Anyway, I finally got a new job. Being a full time pedicabbie just wasn't paying the bills anymore. Its still a great second job, and its still the most fun I've ever had while working, but it has just gotten to the point where its not even worth showing up more than 2 or 3 days a week. Last september I had almost $4k in the bank (which I was trying to save up about 6-7 to start a side business) and I just watched that all whither away while I struggled to make 150-200 a week. It was torture. I had been searching for a second job for a while even before that, but we all know how hard that has been.
So I finally landed a serving job at a new fun little restaurant near my house. The food is great. The atmospere, clientelle, and coworkers are all great people to be around. The owner is a hardass and is not scared of firing anyone who isn't up to her standards, but she knows what she is doing and I have faith in her to make the right decisions... unlike a lot of bosses I've had over the years who are just assholes seemingly for the sake of being assholes. I love it there so far and the money is decent. Hopefully I'll be able to save a bit of money and start enjoying life a bit again (read: tattoos, car parts, and trips).
Went to the Harvest of Hope fest last weekend in St. Augustine. It was a blast, even better than last year. Also got to meet Blake Schwarzenbach of Jawbreaker/Jets to Brazil fame... one of the few people in the world who's work I consider to be a huge influence on my own music. I wish I got to talk to him more but he was in mid conversation when I saw him and I really didn't want to interrupt or be rude.
Not everything can be good news, my grandmother has finally begun to make her turn for the worse. Its kind of a relief in a way, she has been lingering in a not-quite-ambulatory state since november of 2008 and I honestly think it is better for her and my family. My mom has given up her career to take care of her full time, even right as my dad retired, leaving my parents just barely scraping by. Its not easy to see my Gran in such bad shape, but nothing at all about the current situation is easy for anyone involved. Its just a complicated situation.
I'm about to finish up a side degree at Valencia, and I'm jumping through the necessary hoops to get back in to UCF and finish my BSME either this summer or fall. I can't wait to be finally back on track and headed toward my career, I'm so tired of hustlin' for every dollar!
Sorry for the long update, I'll talk to you all soon I hope
