I feel ya... I think the military is scary for anyone to talk about, right now. You know SG... Everyone wants to hear about what partying you did last weekend, but very few people have anything to say about real issues.
If I were in your position, I'd have real hard time joining the Army or Marines. The Air Force or Navy may be far enough out of 'the shit' to be an easier choice. If your looking at jet maintainance (sp?), sounds like the Navy could be a good way to go. When I joined up, the Air Force didn't promise what job you'd end up in. Make sure, if that's the most important thing to you, that you are comfortable you'll be getting what you want out of the deal.
I'm all for 'serving your country,' but I still have a hard time understanding how 'freeing' Iraqis serves the U.S.
