Spent most of my afternoon in the ER. The doctors are always stumped when I bring them my weird problems. Todays was an interesting story. Friday night before bed, I noticed that one of my stretch-marks on my thigh was really red, as if it had just stretched. I tried to ignore it. It didn't hurt or anything. Saturday afternoon, it begins to get very swolen and turns an almost blue-ish shade of purple. It looked exactly like what I'd think a vein might look like, if a vein were to suddenly appear under the top of your skin. Sunday, it gets bigger, and looks so much like a protruding vein that I began to worry. Obviously NOT a blood-blister or a bruise. So I go in this morning and am not seen for several hours. When the doctor finally took a look at it, he said (and I quote) ... "Huh....."
Don't you LOVE it when doctors have no clue? It makes me realize just how much we rely on medical science, and just how little we know about the human body and it's possibilities.
He decided that there was definately blood under the skin, but couldn't figure out how it might have happened, why it didn't hurt, and why we found fiber-glass-like shavings near the wound...
It's now been hours since lancing it, and guess what? It WAS a vein of some sort (although I'll never know what it was doing at visible depth running across a 1-inch portion of a stretch mark)..... and the doctor's brilliant idea to lance it was not a good one. Have you ever given blood, and the technician has shot the needle straight THROUGH the vein? That's what happened. Basically, the wandering vein collapsed, and I am now bruised and pretty sore. And yes, the vein is still perfectly visable and just as swolen.
Medical lesson for the day... when you don't know what it is, ask your Doctor. If he still doesn't know, it's best to leave it alone for a few more days before tampering.
Aside from my medical escapades, this week I may finally begin those pole-dancing lessons. It all depends on my baby-sitter (and unfortunately I know she'll want to go as well)... I've got 3 days to find a sitter for 3 kids for 3 hours... Anybody?
lol. Nah, I'll just bug my Jess. I'm a little leary about the flyer I got though... it SAYS all-ages welcome.
Yeah, I'll go ahead and take my 3-year-old to my pole-dancing lessons. You know, like a mother-daughter thing. (omg
) That HAD to be a typo...
