second star to the right and straight on until morning. walking out of the house i look to the sky and map those coordinates. look over my shoulder. and walk out of the doorway one last time. sling my meager possessions on to my back. no real place to go in this world. homeless. i wonder these cold streets filled with warm smiles. another lost boy. stuck trying to find his way. leaving pieces of bread to mark every trail i take. another day. more useless miles. and another year on the streets...
"jesus christ i'm alone again..."
a bag full of happy thoughts. and a pocket full of pixie dust. can i fly away from this place. i just want to find my great escape. see the world beneath my feet. and have the chance say what my friends have said...life is so sweet. my feet are scarred from walking through each lonesome town. where people see me as a passerby. just another face in the crowd. my hands dug deep into my pockets. my eyes facing down as i keep on walking. the soles on my shoes and starting to wear through. but i'll keep walking just as long as i pretend that i have someone to walk to.
"you're prison is walking through this world all alone..."
its especially cold out tonight. and i have no place to run. your house was the only one with a light on. humbled by my failure. i walk up and knock on your front door. the first time i didn't knock loud enough for you to hear. i knock again. you didn't answer so i turned and left. zipped up my jacket the wind was biting through my neck. i felt like a vampire had me in his grips. i felt faint. and i heard you call me name as i took in my last breath...i remember seeing you run to me. i admit...you're all i ever had left...
"what happened back there...what happened back there...that night..."
waking up in a cold sweat. no clue where i am and scared to death. i look desperately for something i recognize. i hear footsteps in the distance so i crawl under the bed and hide. someone calls my name. the voice is so familiar...but i won't crawl out from under here. its the first time i have felt safe in a while. the voice calls out my name again. this time looking under the bed. and our eyes met. i crawled out and grabbed my stuff and left. without thanking you or saying goodbye.
"there's a train leaving town in an hour its not waiting for you...and neither am i..."
every now and again. i see you through a window telling stories to kids. about the boy who hid under your bed. but one night in particular you looked right at me. and our eyes met again. you rushed to the window and by the time you made it i had left. but this time i left you a map. a map where find me. hidden amongst the galaxies. look to sky at night and make sure you're looking for me...i'm that one shining...second star to the right and straight on 'til morning.
"don't worry i'll catch you...don't ever worry..."
x marks the spot. look for the tree fort. and pull on the vine. i finally figured out how to stop time. so we don't ever have to grow up. so lets never grow up.
