Today is my first full day of being a member of the SG's website. I had thought about joining several years ago as a model but couldn't find a photographer or the time. So now I'm back as joe-blow-member. Which isn't bad at all. Despite the brief moments of perviness that I must fend off. What's really wrong with that anyways.
I went and saw a production of The Vagina Monologues last night after joining SG. I thought it was fitting. I have to write an article on the play also tho for the newspaper so it wasn't just a treating myself kind of thing.
I was sitting next to two of the most conservative and judgemental people you could ever entice into seeing such a production. I had to bit my tongue to keep from laughing at the woman's comments and gasps of shock. My favorite part is when the guy, who appeared to be taking her on a date to see this, was trying to justify why someone would be homosexual.
He started out with the good old stand by - nature vs. nurture. He insisted that it was completely genetic. She murmured agreement in that a daughter of a friend had come out and she had always suspected the girls father of being a closet case as well!
After thoroughly exhausting that option the woman made up a figure off the top of her head. "I heard that 98 percent of gays have been sexually abused as children and that's why they are gay"
"yes yes" he agreed, "it's a classic case of traumatic realignment"
I just wanted to butt in and suggest that maybe, people are gay because that is what they like. "Boobs are great!!!" chant the lesbians in my imagination after I confront the couple. "We love dicks!" Hoot the gay men.
Instead, I behave myself and simply chuckly soundlessly at the scene playing out in my head.
It was a good night. The play was over far too soon, I could have sat through twenty more monologues - crying and laughing and saying "AMEN SISTER!" So instead of going home to sit on the computer and pound out the article and haunt the internet, I grabbed my dog and went for a walk around campus until approx. midnight. She loved it because there were lots of new smells for her there. And of course miles of uncharted territory to mark! I got some exercise and a chance to just enjoy our spring time weather in the middle of February.
