A friend was hit in the eye by a spear at re-enactment traing today, I spent most of the afternoon in hospital. He had to go into surgery this evening, I hope he is going to be alright for is and his girlfriends sakes. Why does this kind of thing happen to nice people.

My ex and her SO are in one of the reenactment groups (I forget what it's called - mostly Norman/Saxon stuff), and friends of theirs (and mine, a long time ago - haven't seen them in ten years) are in ECW (not Sealed Knot, the other long-established group).
