The heart is an interesting piece of human machinery. Without it we would not be able to function in any way as it really is the lifeblood of our very existence. In fact, I'm sure that's where the term came from before we started using it to describe so many things from engine oil to electricity to water (for plants). Biologically speaking it really is the (off) center of our universe and works in both conjunction and sometimes juxtaposition with the central processing unit we call the brain.
Our heart may not be physically linked to the emotion of love and firing synapses may be more to blame for erections physically and emotionally, but there is no denying that the blood pumping through our arteries is the reason we can "love" even if it's as simple as a three letter word we may call sex and deny love has anything to do with it. I won't argue semantics about sex and love or personal feelings thereof because this is not about any person specifically or judging anyone for their feats, mishaps, mistakes, affairs, or any of that. Let's just put it simply that blood flows through our veins and allows us to perform the many activities that surround our interests and emotions.
That heart has valved chambers that are shaped specifically to guide the flow one direction, the muscles pulling the blood cells into each chamber to redistribute them throughout the body. That blood is as much a fuel as it is an oil allowing our muscles to flex and bend to our will. Without it we might be a boring carbon based statue.
Blood, essentially, follows the same map as love might when we truly open ourselves up. I'm still trying to find a way to express myself as intelligently and poetically as the beautiful @akiramai did many months ago, but I watched a little too much Netflix and spent more time than preferred with my depressive brain leading me to once again refer to this topic. In short, the right side of our heart pulls de-oxygenated blood into the heart so that it can be reinvigorated with oxygen while the left side distributes the oxygenated blood cells to our various organs and parts of our "selves". The key to the heart is not the fact that it receives the blood, but that it gives it all away. Like our heart, it is important to receive love to keep our emotional "lifeblood" fueled and oiled, but the true mechanics of that heart is to be a strong enough pump and send that blood out and about to every essential piece of self. We receive love so that we can feel a bit of happiness that it provides us, but then we distribute that love all around the world to our "fingers" and our "toes" whether they be friends, family, or someone we just met.
I have a difficult time believing in myself and following this thought process as simple and easy a concept as it is, but the truth is we were made to give love. I wouldn't claim it's more important to give than receive, but without giving then what is there left to receive? Our hearts do not distribute the blood only to eject it from beneath our skin, but much like the air we breathe, the water we drink, and almost everything in life that we do or see it is recirculated and recycled through our environment to come back again in some form. We give love and we will receive it. That heart gives blood physically to our appendages and emotionally it pumps it out to distribute.
The heart is a miracle machine. We have organs that cleanse toxins, a cellular structure that absorbs and stores knowledge and memories, and many pieces and parts that make us the people we are. Giving love may get us into trouble and, in many cases, cause us to do a variety of stupid things that will cause heartache but do we quit our workouts because we have sore muscles or do we continue to build and strengthen that muscle? The heart is a muscle just like any other in our bodies and that love is a great workout not only for you, but for everyone receiving it.
The next time you think about heartache or receiving love, don't forget the more we give the stronger our heart, our love, will become. It's definitely not easy. It takes time, it takes effort, but every pound of pressure is strength building up inside and every ounce gifted is another smile, another miracle, another finger or toe in the whole of society reached.
I fully intended this to be an introduction to another appreciation post, but I spent a bit much time with Netflix and finding some happiness in my own life so all I had time for was a little introspection to share with you. I promise I will post again soon because there are way too many lovely sets I absolutely would love to share with you so be sure to come back within the next day or two and bring some coffee or tea for another lengthy read.
Also, I don't know why, but I have this huge fracking urge deep inside to start to pursue a little photography within the SG community. Just rambling to myself on this one, but how cool would it be to bring the literate part of my heart and soul into a physical manifestation by helping others achieve beautifully crafted images of themselves?!
Well, I bid thee a good night and sweet dreams.
Until you read in silence or we meet in dialogue again,
Xander
