Saturday: Going record shopping again, this time we are focusing mostly on Jazz. Had a look round HMV was tempted to buy a Herbie Hancock boxset, but not for thirty five quid. Went into Sister Ray and found a Toots & The Maytalys album I've been trying to find for ages, down to Zavvi for a couple of cheap Miles Davis CDs, then Ray's Jazz for a Gill Scott-Heron album. I was determined to pick up some Jazz on vinyl so I hit a back road second hand place behind Zavvi I haven't been in for a few years, found some Coltrane, Davis and Monk also picked up a couple of Rollins Band albums (one of which I forgot I already had, no matter, TO eBAY!). Went in the Intrepid Fox for an orange juice then had some greasy chips for tea and set off for Islington. Went in a Wetherspoons for a J20 and a quiet corner to read (no such luck with a load of people watching the football results). Went over to the Union Chapel and waited in line.
The Helio Sequence: Two men and a sampler playing twee Indie pop, good for what it was but not my sort of thing.
Low: I wasn't that keen on their last album what with all the samples and use of drum machines, thankfully they didn't bring much of that stuff on tour so the songs came off more miserable, like the Low I know and love. They appeared to have a new, much younger looking bass player. Was pleasantly surprised that they did old stuff like Soon and Sunflower. They encored by asking people what they wanted to hear and got loads of people shouting at once. They started playing Shame and got a laugh when Mimi asked "what are we doing?" right before she was supposed to sing. They ended with a couple of songs from Trust and the show was over pleasantly early. I managed to film song songs on my digital camera, the picture is a bit dark, the sound a bit muffled and towards the end my hand started to cramp up but otherwise they came out good.
