Saturday: This was a last minute decision when Mills told me him and Steve would be going to this show and I booked a ticket Thursday morning. Steve picked me up from my house, drove Nadine home after spending the night at his. Got lost trying to find Mills, so I called him and he said he'd get a lift down to where we were. Steve smoked a joint and we talked about his new love of KRS One. Mills Mum dropped him off then we followed her car to Mills' new house. Went to Mills' room, admired the pink fairy wall paper while Mills played us music and explained that this house was only temporary and he'd be moving house again in the new year. Steve played Mills' PS3 for a bit then we drove to Chatham and got a train to Victoria. Steve and Mills got something to eat from Burger King while I got tofu and rice. Went to the Intrepid Fox in Soho, stayed for one drink then went over to the Crobar, put some Soundgarden, Down and Iron Monkey on the jukebox, had a J20, Steve had a beer, Mills had two, then we went up to Islington. Mills showed me the pub they'd meet me in, I went to get my ticket from the box office, they went for a joint. Stopped in a Tai restaurant, wasn't sure if everything there was entirely Vegan, just picked the stuff I recognised for the ones in Camden and Soho, eat on the way to the box office, it was closed so I had a look around Borders and HMV then went to the pub. Steve had a chicken curry, Mills had more beer. They went for another joint, I told them I'd meet them outside the venue, I found out they were doing ticket collection on the door that night so I had another look round Borders and HMV, saw James Brown's Funky Christmas for six pounds in HMV and couldn't help myself, it will indeed be a Funky Christmas this year. Eventually Steve and Mills came back and we could go in. The first band was alright but it annoyed me that they were an English band singing with an American accent. Went to the toilet and got stopped by a guy with a foreign accent, pointed at my Black flag shirt and said "love your shirt man, best band in the world, Chris thinks so too" and pointed at Orange Goblin's drummer behind the merch stall.
Solace: Last time they were good, this time they were on fire, the fact that I'm more familiar with their songs may have helped. Was impressed they did The Cure cover on their last EP and surprised how much Doomier it sounds live.
On the last song a guitarist I didn't recognise took over from the fat one and he did back up vocals with the singer, then took over playing from the other guitarist
Orange Goblin: They played the theme from Suspiria and projected scenes from Zombie films on the white sheet behind the band while they played (I recognised Dawn Of the Dead, Zombie Flesh Eaters, The Zombie Dead, Night Of The Living Dead (original and remake), White Zombie, City Of The Living Dead, The Beyond and Suspiria for some strange reason, even though it doesn't have Zombies in it). Played another set of classic and eclectic songs (impressed that they still play Aquatic Fanatic and the first time I've ever heard them play Tosh Lines), stayed up front with Steve 'til after they played Round Up The Horses, as I was walking to the toilet I heard Ben say "Show me you're not Emo, show me you're not Bring Me The Hairdresser" when I came out of the toilet I saw one of Zak's mates from the Tap, apparently he saw me at Fu Manchu last week but didn't think it was me. Went to Solace's merch stall and got a couple of EPs on vinyl. Steve and Mills found me at the back. They played with Blue Snow then went off and came back for an encore, Ben said they were going to play two more but had to just play one because the venue was nearly at curfew so they just played Scorpionica.
Went to Victoria, got a fruit salad and Clementine juice from Marks & Spencer's while Steve and Mills went to the other Burger King. Got on the train and talked bollocks 'til we got to Chatham. Mills got a taxi home so Steve could give me a lift straight to my house.
