Thursday: Got to Victoria after four, went to Soho to look round HMV and Virgin, didn't really find anything. Got the tube to Chalk Farm and walked down to the new music shop near the canal. Bought Nick Cave and Groundhogs, got freaked out by this Goth I could figure out was either an ugly girl or a tranny, went to the DVD section, got Deliverance and another Ghost In The Shell series DVD and left for the second hand shop, got the new Unsane album. Went to the Vegan Thai place and claimed a free takeaway, went to Marks & Spencer's for something to drink, had a look round Waterstones. Ran out of ideas for things to do so I went to All Ages Records for the first time in ages, found loads of seven inch's: Armed Response Unit, The Procedure, SSS, Winnebago Deal and surprisingly Witch (always find something I'm not expecting to see in there), the guy with the slicked back hair said he had a zine I'd be interested in, went in the back and came back with a Polish Hardcore zine called Kiss My Edge, normally I don't bother with zines (well not paying for them, anyway) but it made me laugh so much I took it, it was only 90p, the guy asked how I was and what I'd been up to, it's the only shop in London where they actually recognise you from the last time you were there, came away wondering why I don't go there more often. Went to the good Irish pub, had a J2O and read Kiss My Edge, only one interview with a band I liked but some great ranting in the back about how militant Straight Edge kids are cunts and how Hardcore kids can act like jocks plus some guy talking about his holiday in Spain. Went to Koko, no real queue, sat on the step and read Sartre, watched touts getting wound up as no one wound sell them their tickets, I saw one wave to another as he walked off, the other guy jammed two fingers up in the air behind his back. Doors opened went to the merch stall, no Shellac stuff, got all excited when I saw the name Lords on t-shirts thinking it was the American band but as I looked more closely at their CDs it was just and English band also called Lords, they had a four way split ten inch with Todd on it so I got that. Went on a safari round the upper level of Koko, found comfortable leather chairs behind the upstairs bar, camped out there for a while.
Lords: Kinda like The Rapture, kinda annoying, like The Rapture.
Shellac: Opened with Steady As She Goes into My Black Ass. Really good and had some funny banter. They kept messing up the intro to one song, Steve pointed at a guy in the front row and asked him to count to four, then had a go at him for not doing it to his like, then he asked everyone to count to four, everyone did "One at a time, I can't hear you" while Steve tuned up Bob asked people if they had any questions "Are we going to play Crow? No absolutely not, we were going to but now that you ask we aren't" "How long have we been together? Fifteen years, you don't believe me? Look it up on the internets" Steve approached his mic "And the love is still there, Bob can still fit in his wedding dress" the drummer got up and went to Bob's mic "It's been a bit lonely in the hotel room no that Steve has been mainlining internet poker 'Steve can't we watch porn or pet each other'" "Did we come in a car?" Steve: "Sometimes"
They stared playing The End Of Radio, the drummer took a single snare drum and started walking around the stag banging it during the intro.
More questions "Our drummer rocks, that isn't a question" the drummer got back up and started ranting about listening to AC/DC in the airport, how he hadn't had any sleep the night before, how he had a four shot of espresso before he went on and didn't intend to sleep tonight and randomly sang bits of AC/DC songs, got my backpack out of the cloak room, started sorting out my stuff when they went into Prayer To God, watched Steve screech at the top of his lungs "KILL HIM, FUCKIN' KILL HIM, KILL HIM ALREADY, KILL HIM" then they ended with Watch Song, saw Thom who used to be in The Guillaume Seam and November Coming Fire before I left.
Got chips in pita from the kebab shop across the road before getting on my train, got off at Rochester and walked home.
Friday: WARNING; I had a shit night so I'm going to write something introspective and depressing, if you don't want to be brought down stop reading, I write these as a form of self analysis to try and figure out why I do these things, I put them on the internet for fear that people think of me as a two dimensional character and at least I can give my perspective. Got to the Tap at eight, no one there I knew, kept trying to find a quiet place to be by myself but had to move from place to place due to loud people. I've speculated enough on why I go out by myself but I've never really talked about why I don't want to be around people. I go out in the hope of meeting new people, but I'm unable to do so because I'm too shy to introduce myself, I have to rely on my friends or hope someone approaches me, I don't like this but it's all I know. Left before half nine, went home and watched television.
