Friday: Didn't do too much but I knew people wouldn't be out so I was too disappointed. Just went to the Tap and found a quite corner to read in and wait to see if anyone would show, at twenty past eight I was still on my own so I went home, watched Women In Love on Film Four, I forget sometimes that Oliver Reed used to be a good actor.
Saturday: Nan had a fall and had to be taken to hospital, Mum was with her but came back before I went out. Got to the Tap about quarter past seven and found the doors were locked, looks like they are treating this as a proper club night. Went to the Command House, surprisingly empty for a Saturday, saw most of Reasonable Doubt come in for a drink. Went back to the Tap after eight and saw a big queue with a lot of Manor and Friday night Tap types. After walking around inside for a bit I saw Ollie with a couple of his mates and wound up spending the night with them. It wasn't too much of a bad night, it kind of reminded me of what manor was like when I started going there (in fact I recognised some of the old DJs form back in the day), plus there were actually quiet areas were you could have a decent conversation, it was cool that the Indie and Rock DJs were in separate rooms because the top floor didn't get so fucking crowded like it does on Fridays, however I can't see the Retro Room staying for long, it was practically empty all night. At one point Ollie asked how I got the nickname Goatboy, and seeing as there isn't much to right about this week I may as well reiterate, a couple of years ago when Tap used to hand stamp people going out on a Friday if they got there before they started charging on the door, one New Years Eve we all decided to go down really early so we wouldn't have to pay the ten quid they were charging on the door. When one person tried to leave to get something to eat he got told that they were going to stop giving people free hand stamps and have to pay ten quid if he wanted to leave and come back, so we went hungry. I was still drinking pints of coke back then and one thing I discovered was that if you take lots of caffeine on an empty stomach it makes everything really fun. I had just gotten into Bill Hicks at the time and my favourite routine of his was randy Pan the Goatboy, I started referring to myself as Goatboy in third person for a couple of hours ("Goatboy wants another drink" "Goatboy needs a piss" and at one point "James is dead, Goatboy is here now"). In the following months I just started calling myself Goatboy online and then other people (usually people who didn't know what my real name was) started calling me Goatboy to my face, and it's just stuck. I left about twenty past midnight for chips and a taxi home, it was fun but like the Manor, I would like to go there on my own.
