just had my hand surgery .. not too bad but damn the anesthesiologist stuck that needle into my palm pretty deep ... all the way in ... I let out big expletive and people in the room started it laughing ....
rin:

rin:

it has been raining for a whole week now in New York ... and I love it ... it is so cool outside instead of the usual heat that comes in June ...
I like rain but only when I'm inside ... I usually don't like carrying an umbrella unless it is really pouring outside ... I usually rather get wet than open up an umbrella ... weird, yeah I think so ...
siamkittie:
I never carry an umbrella. Other ppl generally don't know how to walk with them.
And, I was chasing my vodka...no, never. I couldn't make up my mind on what I wanted to drink so I got both.

that style doesn't have beginners classes exactly. it's all taught together. you just get more and more of the nuances as you go.
It shows you how to move your body as a whole for fighting, if all you learn is how to swing a sword without accompanying footwork and avoidance skills, you'll just end up with a mutual slaying(ai-uchi). Probably not the goal you are going for.
starting with Bujinkan taijutsu and then expanding extras on to it with specific styles of swordwork will give you crazy sword skills if you put the work in. Not having a good base to start though will hinder you greatly.
this dojo might be closer and is of similar if not better quality.
www.muzosa.com
good luck whatever you go with.
If you don't like whats up there and don't mind a trip to philly, i'll be doing a sword fighting seminar again in September, or, if you get a half dozen or more people together, I'll do one up there sooner.

what part of the sprawling metropolis are you in?
http://www.bujinkannyc.org is in brooklyn, and while they aren't sword specific, they cover sword and will give you a solid base to learn many other sword styles from. ignore the silly name.
if it's not close, let me know, I'll see if i can find something closer, I don't know a lot of them though, i tend to only go up there to teach.
